This Rex Ryan quote shows he knows his time is running out with the Jets
It seems like an eternity ago now, but you might recall that after the Jets lost 31-0 at San Diego in Week 5, and dropped to 1-4, coach Rex Ryan acknowledged in a radio interview that he would be fired after the season if things didn't improve.
They haven't. The Jets are 2-9. They just lost 38-3 on Monday night in Detroit to the Bills, a game in which the Jets had every apparent advantage.
It was the low point of a miserable season. And it was probably the final blow for Ryan, who seems to have no chance of making it to a seventh season with the Jets.
"We know we clearly have to get a lot better, and we have to get better in a hurry," Ryan said Tuesday. "We're running out of tomorrows. I recognize it and that's the challenge that's in front of me."
The Jets' season finale, since they can't make the playoffs, is Dec. 28 at the Dolphins. Ryan is widely expected to be fired the next day. In just over a month, there won't be any more tomorrows for Ryan with the Jets.
He said after Monday's loss that he expects to be the Jets' coach for the next five games, which is in keeping with owner Woody Johnson's policy not to make in-season coaching changes. But clearly, after those five games, Ryan's time will be up.
The Jets are out of the playoffs for the fourth straight season, their longest drought since 1992-97. Since Ryan took them to their second of two straight AFC title games after the 2010 season, the Jets are now 24-35.
With the way things have unfolded this season, particularly against the Bills on Monday night, Ryan won't have much of an argument when Johnson cuts him loose.

Rex is done in NY. But it may work out for the best for him. Frankly, he is not well suited to coach a young team, and he needs a team that is set offensively. Honestly, if the broncos do not win the SB, elway should can Fox and hire Rex. The broncos are his perfect fit. Veteran team. Ready made offense with franchise QB. Defense with elite pass rushers.

I hope Woody actually does a clean sweep, a new GM who could pick his own coach and scouting department. Enough with the half assed shit. Enough Bradway , enuf dufus Idzik , and although Rex seems like a cool guy, enuf already. We need real football people or else this treadmill of shit keeps spinning.

I'm not always for the fire everyone crowd, this time I am, we've hit rock bottom. We need a real team of scouts and decision makers, I'm ok w a rebuild. What we have now is incompetence. I want a real GM, BUT he'll want his own team, otherwise we have to settle for second rate bullshit.

Same scouting department. Same coaching staff.

I think it is difficult to evaluate Idzik since be basically was just swapped out for Tanny. Same scouting department. Same coaching staff. I thought Idzik brought in some of his own scouts? He only made a couple scouting changes. He fired Mike Davis, the assistant director of college scouting and Joe Bommarito a west coast scout. He also fired assistant GM Scott Cohen and director of football administration Ari Nissim. In keeping with a long line of half measures and failure to totally clean house, Terry Bradway was actually promoted and given the title of Senior Director of College Scouting, in doing so Idzik failed to really change anything of substance in the scouting department.

Not according to the Jets' media guide www.newyorkjets.com/ms/media-guide/2012/html/Football%20Support%20Staff%20Bios.htmlEveryone in Player Personnel and Scouting have been with the Jets longer than Idzik, with one exception -- Personnel Scout Kevin Kelly who is in his first year with the Jets after spending the previous 3 seasons with the Colts. Edit - Ooop, that media guide is from 2012. How do you delete a post?

How Bradway has kept a job in the Jets scouting department and front office for 15 years is a mystery to me. That's the first position I make a change at if I'm the new GM.

He is the common denominator in the Jets terrible drafting through several regimes. In fact, the only time they drafted decently was when Mangini was telling Tanny who to draft. Plus Bradway is always telling anyone who will listen how he wanted to draft Russell Wilson or some other player who has seen success. He never mentions the guys he may have wanted who bust. That is a punk move.

That is a punk move. My biggest issue with Bradway has been the lack of value he places on drafting offensive playmakers high in the draft. If you look at the Jets draft history since Bradway came here in 2001, it is devoid of offensive playmakers in the first 3 rounds.

How Bradway has kept a job in the Jets scouting department and front office for 15 years is a mystery to me. That's the first position I make a change at if I'm the new GM. The hiring of Graves was a significant move. The guy was the GM of the Cardinals for over a decade and had three winning seasons there. And that's who Idzik hired to be his main advisor in helping select players. That seems to be the single biggest move responsible for the debacles known as idzik's drafts. It looks like the scouting department has actually gotten worse since this move was made. Idzik realized he needed help with player evaluation but he can't even pick someone who can help him pick the right players.
