EDIT: Why the fuck isn't this picture appearing?
Carlton prevails!
After a season of being the clear audience favorite, “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” actor Alfonso Ribeiro walked away with the super-sparkly Mirror Ball Trophy on the “Dancing With the Stars” Season 19 finale.
It was a long journey for the star that will always be known as his character, Carlton. Ribeiro said he dreamed of being on “DWTS” for the last decade. “Hey, talk about perseverance, huh?” co-host Tom Bergeron joked at the end when Ribeiro and his pro dance partner, Witney Carson, were named the winners.
“I cannot believe this,” Ribeiro said as tears rolled down his face. “I’ve wanted it forever…I don’t even know what to say.” He confirmed that they were “happy tears.”
“He’s one of the most hard-working people I’ve ever met and he deserves this,” gushed Carson, who suffered a pretty bad back injury during their journey to the trophy.
The duo triumphed over 17-year-old “Duck Dynasty” heiress Sadie Robertson and Mark Ballas, the runners-up. Judges called Robertson, who confessed she couldn’t dance before the season started, this year’s “Cinderella story.” Meanwhile, ABC Family’s “Pretty Little Liars” star Janel Parrish and Val Chmerkovskiy (this season’s will-they-won’t-they couple) came in third place, even though they sealed their dance with a kiss on Monday night’s performance episode. Nice try, guys!
Ribeiro was the one to beat from the beginning, as he has some natural moves – you may remember his famous “Carlton” dance from “Fresh Prince.” The audience flipped out earlier in the season when Ribeiro and Carson featured the number in a routine:
As usual, the two-hour finale was packed with filler before the Mirror Ball Trophy announcement at the very end, including songs from Nick Jonas, Meghan Trainor and Jennifer Hudson. The season’s former contestants were in the house to perform again, including Lea Thompson, Jonathan Bennett and third runner-up Bethany Mota. As an added bonus, Cheech Marin showed up again to reprise Tommy Chong’s famous “Drop It Like It’s Hot” dance.
While about about 13 million people tuned in each episode this season, ratings aren’t what they once were. So the aging show continues to try and spice things up, like scrapping the live band; adding Erin Andrews as co-host; and installing Julianne Hough as the fourth judge. But don’t worry — during the finale, Bergeron assured everyone that the show will be back in the spring for a very special 10th anniversary season, so you can only imagine what the producers have in store.</div>
