Sadly, Ellis will likely leave. the only way he stays if he get too little on film and his market price is low enough that the Jets can keep him. So, I hope he gets very little playing time. I do believe he will excel when the Jets switch to a 4-3 next season. Plus, I like the idea of playing both Snacks and Ellis together at DT with Sheldon and Mo at DE. I don't get it, why not give him a lot more playing time, especially with Mo out lately. Get a really good look at what he can do. I guess the staff feels the already know enough about his ability.

You guys know that we will lose this game. There is a much bigger disappointment awaiting us in Week 17.

With respect to making a decision on Ellis for 2015, it would make more sense to give TJ Barnes more playing time to decide if we can afford to let Ellis walk. Did you know, that Ellis, who turned only 27 yesterday, is the second oldest D lineman. 51 Enemkpali, Ikemefuna DE 6-1 272 age 23 94 Harrison, Damon DL 6-4 350 age 26 96 Wilkerson, Muhammad DL 6-4 315 age 25 99 Barnes, T.J. I don't want us to win this game, but looking at the numbers it is hard to see a Titans win. Vegas has the Jets as the slight favorite which is something given that it is a Titans home game. Yes, week 17 it's a toss up ...

I agree with you on Ellis as the Jets need to eventually extend Harrison and would likely retain the cheaper backup in Barnes.
How do you arrive at the Jets being a 4-3 team next year? And if so, what to do then with Wilkerson? He can't play DE in a 4-3 with containment responsibilities which BTW, is the reason there are no 300+ lb 4-3 DE's. You can't platoon him with Richardson at the DT position opposite Harrison. You know you'd have to trade him, right? His value is high still being on the rookie contract.

I think Mo has enough quickness to play DE in a 4-3. Plus, he could easily get his weight down to under 300. I think he carries extra weight in his belly to have the sufficient size to be effective as a 3-4 DE. Also, while the trend has been for defensive ends to be glorified outside linebackers who do nothing more than rush the passer, I think there is a movement towards bigger guys playing the position. Calais Campbell is 300 lbs; JJ Watt is 290 lbs; Mario Williams is 292 lbs. These guys, like Mo, have the size to power rush and sufficient quickness to play the position. Finally, I think the next coach will go 4-3 for 2 reasons. First, it is the trend in the NFL. Second, it is where all of the D talent is for the Jets.

We'll disagree on that - your example of Mario is correct although he's built a bit differently carrying the weight at 6'7 - he's a bit trimmer than the others mentioned. Campbell and Watt play the 3-4 DE so those examples are not valid. Mario's the exception, not the rule here but possibly it could work even though I highly doubt it. It's one thing having interior line quickness but another thing all together in open space. He'd be lost out there IMO.
I wasn't aware that 4-3 defenses were trendy. You make a good point though about our strength being up front as the Jets lack woefully at LB. I think they need two new starting LB's this offseason whether it's 4-3 or 3-4.

But the Jets are so much worse this year than the year the Titans killed us and the Jets playoff hopes along with it, are they much worse as well? This year, they are absolutely disastrous. They have lost two starters on the oline and the back ups are somewhere between the level of Wayne Hunter and that notorious Viking, Vlad Ducasse. They have started five different players at the two tackle spots. Immobile Mettenberger was getting killed back there. Locker will be able to escape the pocket but the Titan's beleaguered Oline will help the stats of Richardson and Wilkerson. The T men can't run the ball at all, Shonn Greene was benched last week - they are ranked 27th rushing in the league. Facing the Jets run defense, Locker will be throwing the ball and will have more interceptions than G-Nope. On the defensive side, the Titans are ranked dead last in the league in defending the run, Mornhinweg/Ryan are going to run that ball all day long. As bad as the Jets are at defending the pass the Titans are ranked worse. According to Neil O'Donnell, who does radio coverage of the Titans in Tennessee the players are no longer listening to Wisenhunt ... so there's that too. We will get to see Leon Washington in a Titan uniform. Leon always said that a a big bowel movement before a game foretells of a big performance for him on the field, I miss those quotes.

You're absolutely right. In a year where we have five 2-11 teams and some 10 loss teams knocking on the door, this Titans team is easily the worst. Many of these other teams are competing, yet losing. Not the Titans. They're getting destroyed. They've thrown in the towel. Without giving up a bunch of turnover's, I don't see how the Jets can lose this one.
