Let's face it. We are f'd. The veteran free agents collectively suck. The top two draft picks will probably not be reachable and will be a reach if reachable, and we have nothing in the tank between Geno and Vick. Best we can do is take a flyer on a longer shot at a lower round in the draft, let Geno compete with the rook, and replace Vick with another hack. Depressing, but there it is.

I like the idea of Foles or Bradford as a starter while Mariota develops on the bench.

One guy to keep an eye on in 2016 is Cam Newton. He is entering the final year of his contract and Carolina has not extended him yet.

I would not touch RGIII or Cutler with a ten foot pole. Kap and Foles are not going anywhere. Dalton is good only if we can get him cheaply to run the ship while Mariota learns how to be an NFL Qb next year. Then Dalton becomes the backup/tutor to Mariota. I guess you missed the news that Dalton signed a 6-year 115M dollar contract this year? He's clearly their franchise QB. Keep looking for that future backup.

Me too. The nightmare scenario is for Tampa and Tenn to have the two top picks. Both need QB's and would be unwilling to trade with the Jets. The Jets need to have the top pick, or have Oak or Jax to have the top pick to have any chance at all at Mariota. Face it, the kid's skill set, character and intelligence are only going to cause his stock to rise once the combine, pro-days, and deeper analysis begins. Polar opposite for me fellas. I don't know what the answer is yet - but i'm pretty sure it isn't drafting mariota and starting him week 1... which is exactly what will happen if we take him. I'm so done with that method right now. Who said we have to start him Week 1. It is not like Rex is going to be his coach. I am assuming the next staff will understand how nurture a young QB.

Mariota starts year two. Some deadbeat journeyman annoys us for the 2015 season.

They might slap him with the franchise tag. But what about his replacement Derek Anderson? If he plays well for the rest of the season he would be a decent cheap alternative and serve as a bridge for who ever we draft in 2015.

I thought the contract was structured in a very friendly way for the team to let him go if he did not continue to progress. He is not worth that kind of money. 19m a year average? Seriously.

The cast off veteran retread route doesn't work, just look around the league this year.

"They" didnt start Rogers, Eli, Montana, Manziel, etc on day 1. With slotted $'s for draft picks there's less reason to start QBs on day one than there was in the past when QBs got huge dollars. Nevermind that if you think a QB could be your franchise player you take him no matter what, the QB trumps all
