www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2014/12/jets_unlikely_to_hire_jim_harbaugh_as_rex_ryans_replacement_per_report.htmlJim Harbaugh to the Jets? It's unlikely, according to a report from Sports Illustrated's Pete Thamel. Harbaugh, a wildly successful coach in both college and the NFL, is nearing the end of his fourth and probably final season with the 49ers. His broken relationship with 49ers management will lead to his departure from San Francisco. But where will he end up? Harbaugh played at Michigan, which needs a new coach. The Oakland Raiders, right down the road from the 49ers, could also be a destination. The Jets are widely expected to fire coach Rex Ryan after Sunday's season finale at Miami. General manager John Idzik also could be canned. Idzik's departure might open the door for owner Woody Johnson to hire Harbaugh as a coach/GM, since Harbaugh seems to want more decision-making power if he stays in the NFL. But don't expect Harbaugh to join the Jets, according to Thamel: @sipetethamel Follow Told today the Jets are unlikely landing spot for Jim Harbaugh. They interviewed him when they hired Rex. Woody wasn't impressed.
Harbaugh is plenty talented as a coach. He rebuilt Stanford, turning the Cardinal from a 1-11 team the year before he arrived, 2006, to a 12-1 squad in 2010. Harbaugh's first three years with the 49ers resulted in a loss in the NFC Championship Game, a loss in the Super Bowl and a loss in the NFL title game again last year. But Harbaugh is known for being hard-headed, and often difficult to deal with -- no different than many talented coaches who preceded him, including Bill Parcells, the Jets' coach from 1997-99. The Jets went 1-15 in 1996, then 9-7 in Parcells' first year, and 12-4 in 1998, when they reached the AFC title game.

An owner who wouldn't know a football from his own balls is not "impressed" with Harbaugh.

I'm not trying to be Pro Woody(or anti Harbaugh really) but I don't get all the head over heels love for him. He took one of the absolute best rosters in the NFL and achieved what would be expected out of a semi capable coach with that roster. He's not even the best coach in his family.

"One of the best rosters in the NFL" had been one of the worst teams in the decade prior to his arrival. Are you saying that its just coincidence that the roster got great when he arrived? Maybe, just maybe, he gets some credit for developing the players on the roster, something that our boy Rex, doesn't do. If they have a chance to get harbaugh and Woody decides against it, just another example of why this team will never have sustained success under Woody's ownership.

I hear what you're saying, but there won't be an available candidate with a better resume than Harbaugh. Not even close really. e

You really don't get it? What's not to get? Give me a break. He resurrected Alex Smith who had done nothing for years and then he catapulted Kaepernick overnight. Three championship games and a Super Bowl and you simply want to give credit to the roster? The same one Singletary couldn't do squat with? How about giving him the credit he deserves. It wasn't an accident. My god.

Harbaugh is an upgrade over Rex. Both inherited good rosters but Harbaugh actually helped add to his and he got something out of Alex Smith and developed Kaep.
Thar said, Harbaugh is a grinder and in today's NFL that means he has a short shelf life. Eventually players will get fed up like SF did this year. He is a 4-5 year coach maximum.
I think SF goes back to being a 6 to 8 win team without him.
