I had this problem. I had a glomus tumor in my right ear the specialist lifted the eardrum to remove going through the ear canal - its like the flap in yer w.c. tank-but the drum didn't spring back and reseat itself it got crumpled like cut price bacofoil leaving me without full hearing , inability to go underwater etc.
3 months later I went under the knife again where the doctor built a fake eardrum from the cartilage inside the tab from my outer ear (tympanoplasty constructed from anti-tragus) and that didn't take. Sept. 2011 this was. Got by for 2 yrs and last August Dr. McMenomey at NYU did another tympanoplasty same kind -I have Sicilian ears so there was more cartilage- but he fixed it right. I recommend highly you see him for any ear concerns.
