I hope you're right. Please, no Kubiak. Total retread. That would be the perfect example of getting rid of Rex for the sake of getting rid of him, to be replaced by someone not as good. There is no chance Kubiak gets hired here. Decosta is bringing him right?

Like the idea of Bowles. Cable is a good OL coach but struggled as a head coach with the raiders. Kubiak? Great offensive mind, terrible head coach. Reich? I think its too early for him to be considered for a head gig. Just my two cents..thoughts? I wonder about Cable. Did he struggle because he was a bad coach, or was he an unfortunate byproduct of a dysfunctional Raiders organization? Good question not sure if I want to find out. He seems like a rah rah guy just like rex. We need a smart game manager type he will make the necessary in game adjustments when needed.

He was bad as the head coach at Idaho...he may just not be head coaching material.

What will he bring to the offensive side of the ball? How will he help Geno? We've had a top 6 or 7 defense for the past 6 years, zero championships. I'm not really looking to debate Rex's D, or the merits of a top D coordinator, I just don't want us falling for the flavor of the month again. Quinn, Bowles, all the talking heads are extolling their virtues, we've been down that road way too many times as fans, it really began with booting Michaels for Walton imho and has been the one true constant of the franchise, grab the hot guy. I really don't have an alternative in mind, but none of these guys excite me, we had a great defensive coach. In all fairness, several of the top teams in the NFL right now, the guys with Byes in the playoffs next weekend, have predominately defensive HCs. But they also have very good QBs. I have ZERO problem with another HC coming from the defensive side of the football....if it's the RIGHT guy. Pete Carroll, Bill Homeless Hoodie, John Fox are all defensive guys and one of them is likely hoisting a Lombardi trophy next month. 3 out of those 4 guys have established vets at QB. Fox had no hand in developing his QB. We need to develop a QB ourselves, and it would just make it easier if the HC was the one controlling this process. I agree with you, we don't have to hire an offensive guy, I just think we'd be better off if an offensive guy emerges as the best candidate. That's just my personal feeling....

Duke Tobin/Hue is my more realistic scenario. Either way, someone needs to tweet that bad toupee bastard Casserly and tell him get Hue in here for an interview!

Also fits the incumbent category as well. Same with Anthony Lynn getting an HC interview.

Woody loved Rex.
And let's face it - until Brady retires if the Jets ever want to make any real noise they have to beat the Hoodie, a lot.
Point being, Woody got a taste of brashness and boldness and I cannot imagine that he's emotionally ready to downshift to some bean-counting type of coach - a cipher like Joe Philbin. Woody, IMHO, is still going to want someone a bit pugilisitic. So cross Reich and Kubiak et. al. off the list.
To me, of the names that have been officially bandied about - only Dan Quinn and Bowels seem like a realistic fit. I'd also second Carlito that Hue Jackson would make a very capable fit.
So to me, you can take Rex out of the Jets but I don't believe it's that easy to take Rex out of Woody (no pun intended:) I'm betting on one of those names.

You make a good point but I have a feeling that Woody is going to defer to Wolf/Casserly and that can be good or bad news. Kubiak is Casserly's boy so I am hoping Woody is strong enough to say no.

Purely hypothetical situation here....let's say the bengals go out and lose this weekend. Their management now sick of playoff losses decides to fire Marvin Lewis....there's been zero surprise firings this year...there's gotta be at least one. In the unlikely event this happens, would you guys sign on for Marvin Lewis as HC?

i think Cable is a great pick. had success as a position coach, then failure as a head coach - what a way to learn lessons about yourself and your profession. now he's the assistant head coach of arguably the currently most successful team in the NFL, learning from perhaps the NFL's premiere head coach. he's undoubtedly learned yet another thing or two from Pete. their offense is a success. he would obviously bring some of their defensive minds over as well. That's pretty skinny reasoning. If he brings RWil; then it would be a good hire. I watched Tom Cable coach the raiders up close; he's not going to inspire anybody.

Anyone else think the Jets are interviewing HCs/GMs at the same time, secretly? Wouldn't be surprised if both hires were announced together, possibly from Seattle. According to this all prospective GM candidates are being asked which coaches they would like to work with -

Great; lists. I'd bet Rex's name is on a few of those lists.
