Quinn seems to want to work with a more experienced GM candidate than Kirchner. The Jets contacted a few more GM candidates shortly after the Quinn interview, so maybe there's a connection. Quinn and Grier? My dream would be Quinn and Dimitroff, if the Falcons are dumb enough to actually fire him. Dimitroff isn't a personnel guy though. A lot of people thought he'd be fired. He holds some blame for the issues in Atlanta. Specifically trading 5 draft picks (2 1sts, 1 2nd, 2 4ths) for Julio Jones. Huge difference between him trading up for Julio Jones and the Bills trading up for Watkins. That difference is Matt Ryan compared to EJ Manuel. Atlanta had their franchise QB in place and we trying to surround him with the best players to speed up his progression. At best the Bills still had question marks regarding Manuel and huge question marks on their offensive line. That's why those two things aren't comparable imo.

If the Jets announce a coach this week that means it won't be Quinn since he's still coaching in the playoffs. They won't announce anything Wednesday either bc they are interviewing Reich and Bowles on Wednesday. I would think it would be Friday at the earliest. All of their interviews will be done by Wednesday. I think they will announce a GM by the end of the week at the latest. If they don't announce a head coach by the end of the week than I think that means Quinn is their guy and they're going to wait till the Seahawks season is over to announce it while having a handshake agreement in place with him. Not necessarily I clearly remember Charlie Weis committing to Notre Dame before the Pats** won the Superbowl that year. It's totally possible that the Jets already have a verbal commitment from Quinn/Kirchner. That's exactly what I said above.

Gase and Hamilton are still coaching and neither had a bye week. Did either of them interview for jobs last week? Gase had a bye week.

@jasonlacanfora: Jets still have more candidates to speak to, but I hear Doug Marrone's interview with them did not go well. Dan Quinn well positioned now I call bullshit

Jets are first in line to interview Todd Bowles. He's the hottest candidate. Woody better be prepared to make him a serious offer -- checkbook in hand -- and have a GM in the wings to make this happen before he leaves Florham Park. He's had some interim HC experience and his defense resembles Rex's. I think he's the target, followed by Quinn. Why would you just automatically hand Bowles the job? I like the guy and he's my 3rd choice behind Marrone and Quinn, but he's by no means some kind of guaranteed success as a HC. Assuming they are sold on Bowles, they'd need to be able to move quickly before the other 3 teams swoop in. Bowles, Quinn and Kubiak are my top 3 ...

Yup, LaCanfora is another hack. There's only three guys I take seriously with these reports...Schefter, Mort, and Glazer.

Now that would be interesting. I could get on board with that hire. What makes you think he'd be a good fit mrcoops? Just curious. Because his last stint was pretty bad. I think he's a pretty solid coach, and he has learmed from past mistakes. He has done a pretty good job at UCLA. Pete Carroll took a similar route, with a successful college job following two misses as a pro coach. He's not my top choice (I prefer Quinn or Bowles) but, if the Jets want an HC from the college route, he could be an interesting choice. I expect him to stay at UCLA though.

I thought his background was on the personnel side, with the Cheats, before becoming the Atlanta GM? Won NFL Executive of the year twice, and assembled a very talented roster with Atlanta. They Jones trade was costly, no doubt, but at least he acquired a very talented player for that price. If we want an experienced guy running the FO, we could do a whole lot worse than Dimitroff IMO.

That's what ATL radio was saying. It's why he hasn't been fired. Their defensive picks have been crap.

Apparently he's not been pulling the strings with the players... That's on Smith. That's what ATL radio was saying. It's why he hasn't been fired. Their defensive picks have been crap. Atlanta felt like they were 1 player away from a SB and that player was WR Julio Jones. They essentially went "all in" and I can't blame them. The Jets loaded up similarly for 2010, trying to make a hard push for the ring. When it works it's great. When it doesn't you end up in salary cap hell for a couple of years. It's why our roster quickly started to degrade. But we paid that price from 2011 to 2013 I felt, and we were ready to reload with solid young talent. We are going to look back at Idzik and realize he was worse as GM than Kotite was as a Coach. He had a SUPREME opportunity with all that money and all those picks to restock this team for the next 5 years. He whiffed in both FA and the Draft, it set us back 2-3 years and caused Rex to lose his job. Every once in a while I just stop and think for a second about what has transpired and I get really pissed off at how this team was on the doorstep of a SB just 4 years ago and just started to neuter the offense (Oline and WRs from 2011-2013) which I think hampered Sanchez's development, they traded the single best player they've ever drafted (Revis) and let him walk past the Jets to go to a division rival while we had all these millions of $ on the table. Frustrating....infuriating quite frankly.

I'm not diggin Bowles at all after reading the Cards defensive stats........
He's only been a defensive coordinator for 2 ½ years (he took over midway through 2012 with the Eagles). As good as the Cardinals were at keeping teams out of the end zone, they gave up a ton of yards. They finished 24th in total defense and 29th against the pass.

(did he storm out or have a screaming match with Woody? ) Thanks for n othing lacanfora Don't really think it means anything. Marrone interviewed on Saturday. On Sunday, LaConfora wrote an article for cbssports.com "All Signs Point to Doug Marrone as Jets Next Coach". On Monday he is saying he didn't interview well. Can't wait to see what he has to say today. www.cbssports.com/nfl/writer/jason-la-canfora/24934962/all-signs-pointing-to-doug-marrone-as-next-jets-coach
