some decent LB'ers and some pieces to work with in the secondary You had me until there and now I am lost. Naked and afraid. Ha...maybe I was overly positive but I am glad you see the point.

DeCosta could be taking the interview with the Jets for a few reasons. He could legitimately want the job, he could be doing it to gain experience in the interview process for future opportunities or he could be doing it to try to force the Ravens hand and get a firmer commitment and more money from them.

Honestly, if DeCosta declines again then he is nothing but a mooch working in Ozzie's shadow. Ozzie is 58 and has had some serious success here with the Ravens, why would he want to retire now? He can go another 4 years if he wants to. DeCosta would be an idiot to turn this opportunity down. The positives outweigh the negatives: you got a good young defensive line, some decent LB'ers and some pieces to work with in the secondary, a good running back tandem of Ivory/Powell, 40+million in cap space and the 6th overall pick. What more can you ask for? Or ... he likes his job, likes the organization where he is well respected, likes where he lives, doesn't want to uproot his family, gets paid well and doesn't need every last dollar available to him to be happy and is willing to wait whether its 1 year, 5 years or 10 years. How does that make hiom a mooch? What are you his neighbor? How do you know he doesn't want to uproot his family? Its not like he lives across the country. Anyone that doesn't have the balls to further their career and work under the shadows of a guy like Ozzie (whom I have tremendous respect for) for this long period of time is a MOOCH! So if you are right and he declines for those reasons then let him stay because he wasn't worth our time.

I get what you are trying to say but he is not really a mooch if they threw a ton of money at him to get him to stay. He clearly has some worth to them.

If he is the guy that Woody really wants, then you show him by paying as such. You do what Michigan did with Harbaugh, make the guy an offer he can't refuse. If you do that I find it hard to believe that DeCosta would turn down such an opportunity. A GMs salary has no bearing on the cap or anything else, it's all about the owners commitment and how bad he wants a guy. You are going to have to over pay for a guy like DeCosta right now, but thats fine.

He could be leaking that info to try to get more money from UCLA, these colleges panic when they see their HC being rumored to leave. That usually results in a new restructure and a few more dollars for the HC.

A blank Check, complete roster control, a seat alongside Cas and Wolf for the HC search, and a promise of NO MEDDLING.
You serious about changing the culture Woody? This is what you offer DeCosta if we're lucky enough to have an interview with him.....

I agree with that, he may simply be committed to Baltimore. But whether we like to admit it or not, the overall track record of management here is not that great. I'm not saying it's a bad job at all....I'm just saying that there are valid concerns and possible risks. If were coming in for an interview I might ask basic questions like, "Will I be allowed to hire and fire the HC on my own?" and "I've heard reports that the power structure here will have both the GM and HC reporting directly to you, the owner. What if I want the HC to report to me?" and "Will you meddle? Will I be told to trade for a guy like Tim Tebow just to help sell tickets?" LOL give me a break Jetstream. You really think Tebow was strictly a move to sell tickets? He was a football move, simple as that. Strictly? Well, no, but there was some marketing motivation behind hit. Ray Charles could see that.
