Ugh. This story has actually created a firestorm over here. From what I've read, the mother was alone (no father present) and she had multiple kids with her. The kid was heard saying he was going into the moat, the mother told him no...became distracted by the other kids... and the kid took off. The rest you know. All the arm chair animal experts are weighing in with some saying the Gorilla was helping the kid, and others saying the Gorilla was rough with the kid, and getting panicky because of the screams of the crowd. Personally, I think the Zoo did what they had to do given the circumstances. Parenting skills and Gorilla's demeanor aside... I guess we have to wonder why a child that size was able to scale the wall so quickly and easily? It's called gravity "Scale the Wall"? the child scaled nothing from what I heard, I heard he slipped through a seem and then fell 15 feet into the moat.
Regardless how the gorilla was handling the kid, and video does not lie, to me it seems he was dragging the kid with no regard to safety and at times seemed to coddle and fuss as a mother would, the only guarantee for the kids safety was to kill the beast, no other outcome was a guarantee. sad but a necessity.

a necessity.
Relax, pal; Wall..."seam"....the point being, whatever 'barrier" that was in place did nothing to stop a toddler from defeating it quickly. Not defending the mother's inattentiveness, but considering that Zoo's are heavily frequented by children, many of whom are "runners" or "climbers", it shouldnt have been that easy.

Nothing to relax over, I totally agree. I am saying it is even worse that if he got through some "seem" or "seam", you get my f---ing point, that is f---ed up. How does the park have gaps like that in their exhibits.
I don't know dud, what the hell are we going on about this for, I don't give a shit. lets see some more stupid videos.

Bottom line, the ape did nothing wrong. He was minding his own business and this kid drops into his enclosure. Of course the ape had to be shot. The zoo had no other choice. I'm sure the zoo is heartbroken over having to do it. People should lay off the mother. Kids will run off, you can't control them at all times. The zoo enclosure was not good enough if a kid can get through that easily. They are clearly negligent and will end up settling with the kids family.
It's sad that an innocent animal had to die because of this incident, but the zoo clearly had no choice. What if they didn't kill it and the kid ended up dead?

They had to do it, but bullshit on layoff the mother. It doesn't take a couple seconds to get in there. The mother was clearly not minding her kid for minutes at a time. Stupid cunt. I watch my kids, no way they would have ever gotten into a gorilla enclosure. It's a fuckin zoo, a public place. I keep one eye on them at all fucking times.

Maybe not at "all times" but when my daughters were 3 they didn't leave my site in public. Add to that the boy TOLD HIS MOTHER HE WAS GOING TO GO IN THE MOAT and she is at least as responsible as the Zoo IMO.
