DOES ANYONE HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY ABOUT SIDNEY JONES??? YOU KNOW, THE GUY THIS THREAD IS ABOUT... Watched a couple of his game tapes last night -- against Oregon and USC. It can be really tough at times to evaluate CB play since you don't have all 22 film like they have in NFL and CBs often disappear from the screen a couple of seconds after the snap, but what I saw of him was impressive. Lined up mostly in man in the two games. Against Oregon, he seemed to take his receiver out of the game completely. Showed good route recognition -- at times seemed like he was running the route with the receiver. Ducks never threw his way in that game, which usually says a lot about how a CB played -- he took away half the field and they never came his way. I think he only gave up one short reception on a broken play. Against USC, he struggled against a big receiver in JuJu Smith-Schuster, his biggest concern is size. I think he is listed at 6' 0", 180. I am curious to see what he measures in at at the combine. Talented 1st round caliber CB, who will probably be at his best against smaller, quicker receivers, but will need to add some weight to handle the more physical NFL receivers. Hopefully he can do it without sacrificing his quickness.

I think he will get stronger as he develops in the NFL. He doesn't nec. have to put on 20-30lbs but he has to add some weight and muscle mass to his frame. I am not at all concerned about his skill set, but it will be interesting to he if he adds any weight and if he does, how he runs at the combine. His stock could skyrocket or fall depending on that. I know its a stretch but he reminds me a bit of Revis in the way he is able to use technique and mirror his receivers. Both are highly skilled man-cover CBs and have great hands and burst but not elite speed. Revis came in as a rookie at 6' 200lbs, he has a naturally thicker upper body.

I feel terrible for the kid. According to Pauline, the Jets are showing a lot of interest in Jones:

Not confirmed, but reports coming out of Washington that it may be a torn achilles for Jones.

Not confirmed, but reports coming out of Washington that it may be a torn achilles for Jones. Wow, that's possibly the worst injury for a CB. I feel terrible for him. I'd still take him in the 2nd if we're able to pick up an extra one. Let him red shirt him next to let him heal. It will help our tank. Then it will be like two 1st round picks next year.

Awful for the kid. That's a bad injury. He'd be lucky to get picked before the 5th round.

I think he'll do much better than that, honestly. Kid is a legit Top 25 pick in any draft class if he's healthy IMO. Really gifted in press-man (almost kinda reminds you of prime-Revis in the way that he can mirror receivers movements at times with his head completely turned away and facing the ball) and could work in a straight up Tampa 2 as well. To me it's between Lattimore and Jones as to who is the best corner in a very deep and talented DB class, injury not withstanding.

He's going way later than that because of the severity of that injury. I feel bad for the kid, what a terrible way to derail your career before it even starts.

Take it for what its worth, really can't see him playing this coming season coming off an achilles tear, but what do I know.
