I'm sure Marrone wishes he had John Idzik drafting for him.

Saw this in the Moron mega thread. Not sure what to make of it. Does this mean he is power hungry or does it emphasize the importance of a GM and HC being on the same page? Or maybe it is all getting blown out of proportion b.c I am pretty sure there are arguments in every war room. Bills did give up a lot to get him but Watkins did play up to expectations.

They could've stayed put and grabbed OBJ. If Watkins isn't a pro bowler in a season or too it's a bad trade

When he was healthy Watkins was unstoppable ... health being his biggest issue

I would imagine that this is a leak by Marrone's people in advance of a decision by the various teams on whether they should hire him or not. They will want to portray him in the best light possible - it's all about dollars and cents.

Watkins had Kyle freaking Orton throwing him the ball. OBJ has Eli Manning. You really can't compare the two just yet.

Imo, it's spectacular wrs that make ordinary QBs extraordinary. For example: Stafford, Dalton, any Cleveland QB, any Houston QB, etc.

Marone is bullshit, and not some savior that will come and lead the Jets to the promised land. It'd be another 3 wasted years of mediocrity,

Well here's the issue. There were reports prior to the draft that the coaching staff was concerned about EJ's progress. Now, like you, I don't know the full story behind his choice to opt out. However, if this report is true I'm going to take a guess and say that there is a good chance that Marrone felt that if there is a chance that Manuel doesn't pan out and there's no other qaurterback on the roster who can play at a high level, in no way shape or form should a trade like that be made. In a year where he has to show a new owner that he can be successful as the head coach he doesn't even have a first round draft pick to improve the team with. Who knows, maybe the Bills try another trade up for another QB? The more things come out, the more I feel that buffalos front office is an absolute mess and Marrone saw the writing on the wall.

Watkins had Kyle freaking Orton throwing him the ball. OBJ has Eli Forehead. You really can't compare the two just yet. Nah I don't think that was the point. They could have stayed put and drafted OBJ which, at the time, was only a slight drop off in WR ranking and kept the 1st for this season.

The leak sounds more like the Bills employing a scorched earth policy to make it hard for Marrone to get a job elsewhere.

On draft day, Watkins was a much better prospect than OBJ. Watkins was viewed as a sure thing and probably the best prospect in the entire draft. OBJ looked like the 3rd or 4th best receiver available and was no sure thing. Watkins was much more valuable at the time.
