Saw this in the Moron mega thread. Not sure what to make of it. Does this mean he is power hungry or does it emphasize the importance of a GM and HC being on the same page? Or maybe it is all getting blown out of proportion b.c I am pretty sure there are arguments in every war room. Bills did give up a lot to get him but Watkins did play up to expectations. It shows that he was the coach of a young, rebuilding team and thought is was ridiculous to give up a future 1st round pick for a WR. Everyone questioned that move from Buffalo No one denied that Watkins was a supremely talented player, but to give up that much for him in the deepest WR draft in over a decade, was stupid. It's not like Buffalo is Atlanta with a veteran, franchise QB in place and thinks that they're one piece away (Julio Jones) from potentially winning a Superbowl.

I would imagine that this is a leak by Marrone's people in advance of a decision by the various teams on whether they should hire him or not. They will want to portray him in the best light possible - it's all about dollars and cents. Can't imagine they think this paints him in a good light. Well that depends on what story you choose to believe. Was there a severe discord between Marrone and the front office, or was he power hungry animal who feels that it's his way or the highway? Most reports outside outside of Manish suggest that the former is true and that the front office absolutely failed him. Hell, even Seth Walder, Manish's colleague wrote an article that is pretty pro Marrone. See I have a theory on how Manish operates. He thrives off of negativity. He gets his clicks by bashing every little thing this organization does. Everyone knew that Rex AND Idzik had to go and yet the little shit, up until the last hours of Rex, was saying that Woody should be smart and keep Ryan...that letting him go would be a mistake. Then the firings came, everyone was happy to move on and he had nothing negative to write about. Thennnnn comes Marrone opting out and making himself the hottest head coaching candidate on the market. The Jets quickly become the favorites to land him and Manish begins criticizing the move so that he can say "I told you so" should it not work out. It's 110% posturing on his part. I mean shit, he even wrote an article stating that the consulting process just turned "toxic and poisonous as Marrone opts out of Buffalo contract and". He doesn't suggest any alternatives, he doesnt concede to the idea that most of the GM candidates may actually PREFER Marrone over everyone else. He just keeps spewing this "inside source" bullshit he's been peddling since 2012. We could have hired Jim Harbaugh and the same article he just wrote about Marrone would have been written. If we hired Quinn, he would have blasted the team for hiring another defensive guy. The same would go for Bowles but he'd probably mention how Carolina went in and shredded his defense too. He's a fucking weasel who will do anything to generate clicks. I'm going to choose to believe guys like Mawae, Curtis Martin, and the respected guys blasting Mehtas credentials and integrity left and right over that shit stain on society. If guys like Ron Wolf and Charley Casserly feel that Marrone is the best candidate available and after interviewing all the candidates decide that hiring him is the best course of action, then who am I do disagree with that notion?

Nah I don't think that was the point. They could have stayed put and drafted OBJ which, at the time, was only a slight drop off in WR ranking and kept the 1st for this season. Looking back on what we know today, that's the smart move. On draft day, Watkins was a much better prospect than OBJ. Watkins was viewed as a sure thing and probably the best prospect in the entire draft. OBJ looked like the 3rd or 4th best receiver available and was no sure thing. Watkins was much more valuable at the time. Still not worth giving up an additional 1st, 4th for..... ESPECIALLY with E. J. Bustuel's shakiness....

It's easy to say stuff like this now when you see how great the players are. That's the draft - it's a gamble. You can trade up for someone you covet or you can keep your spot and draft the best available.

Just shows how much it takes to move up a few spots in the draft. Those top picks are very valuable. Sometimes it pays off and sometimes it doesn't.

You can trade up for someone you covet or you can keep your spot and draft the best available. The 2014 draft was looked at as one of the deepest WR drafts in a very long time. It made no sense to give up so much to move up and take Watkins. I just use Beckham as an example. Odds are that is exactly who they would have taken if they stayed put. Just look at all the WRs taken after the 9th pick and how well they did this year. Pick Player Team College 4 Sammy Watkins Buffalo Bills Clemson 7 Mike Evans Tampa Bay Buccaneers Texas A&M 12 Odell Beckham Jr. New York Giants LSU 20 Brandin Cooks New Orleans Saints Oregon St. 28 Kelvin Benjamin Carolina Panthers Florida St. 39 Marqise Lee Jacksonville Jaguars USC 42 Jordan Matthews Philadelphia Eagles Vanderbilt 45 Paul Richardson Seattle Seahawks Colorado 53 Davante Adams Green Bay Packers Fresno St. 56 Cody Latimer Denver Broncos Indiana 61 Allen Robinson Jacksonville Jaguars Penn State 63 Jarvis Landry Miami Dolphins LSU 86 Josh Huff Philadelphia Eagles Oregon 90 Donte Moncrief Indianapolis Colts Ole Miss 91 John Brown Arizona Cardinals Pittsburg St.

You gave up a additional number 1 pick and number 4 pick to move up in a draft and take a player at a position that this draft was very rich in. With that said, you have to love that video you posted. What did Cam get on his Wonderlick? Blaine Gabbert – 42 Alex Smith – 40 Eli Manning – 39 Matt Flynn – 38 Colin Kaepernick – 38 Matt Stafford – 38 Andrew Luck – 37 Tony Romo – 37 Sam Bradford – 36 Christian Ponder – 35 Aaron Rodgers – 35 Ryan Tannehill – 34 Tom Brady – 33 Matt Ryan – 32 Matt Schaub – 31 Phillip Rivers – 30 Andy Dalton – 29 Nick Foles – 29, Mike Vick – 20 Drew Brees – 28 Kevin Kolb/ EJ Manuel – 28 Peyton Manning – 28 Mark Sanchez – 28 Russell Wilson – 28 Joe Flacco – 27 Josh Freeman – 27 Brandon Weeden – 27 Jay Cutler – 26 Carson Palmer – 26 Ben Roethlisberger – 25 RGIII – 24 Cam Newton – 21 Jake Locker – 20

Watkins had Kyle freaking Orton throwing him the ball. OBJ has Eli Forehead. You really can't compare the two just yet. In theory the Bills could have Derek Carr throwing to OBJ. Trading up has to be for a sure thing!

Trading up has to be for a sure thing! Looking back, it wasn't a good move. If you asked me today, I'd take OBJ over Watkins if I had a choice between the two. At the time of the draft, I was not happy about Watkins going to the bills. I still think Watkins is going to be an elite nfl WR, he just needs someone to throw him the ball.
