My guess is that there are a few big name guys that he would be willing to make concession to. I don't think he is going to let any coach decide.

Would love to have Dimitroff as our GM. It would be terrific if Rex was the one to decide his fate and deliver him to us as a parting gift.

Atlanta badly wants McDaniels. They want no part of Rex. Nor does Chicago. Likely the same for SF.
If he has a shot anywhere, it's in Buffalo where no big name coaches want to go. And I'd say the odds on favorite there is now Schwartz.
As for the article stating that the new HC selects the GM, maybe this is the wave of the future. Shouldn't the coach have the ultimate vision of the team? And if that's the case, why shouldn't the GM align with HIS thinking instead of the other way around? Idzik crippled poor Rex. As odd as this story seems on the surface, I think there's some sanity behind it.

As odd as this story seems on the surface, I think there's some sanity behind it. You need to have one person act as the "CEO" of the team. If the coach is the person in the organization with the best credentials to do that, so be it. The GM could report to him, obtain the players to fit his vision and take care of all the administrative responsibilities. Traditionally, its been the GM or a high caliber coach. I think an organization would be crazy to enturst Rex with that responsibility but stranger things have happened. and how do you know that those organizations want no part of Rex, or is that just your speculation?
