Don't want to give up picks for Harbaugh....
But if SF was stupid enough to let him go..I would happily give him a Pete Carroll kind of role, then trade up for Mariota.
Say what you want about the guy, he's the kind of coach that's capable of gut renovating this offense.

Considering that Herm was traded for a fourth, the 49ers are probably at least looking for a first. We could still potentially get both if we trade our 2016 pick(s) for Harbaugh. Why would San Fran want 2016 compensation? Jets will have a high draft priority in 2015, why ask for compensation that is unknown? I'm not saying they will, but it is a possibility. Obviously we have no idea what the 49ers want, but it will probably be a high pick. If no team budges for a 2015 first round pick, they might settle for a first in the 2016 draft instead.

I can't imagine the compensation for Harbaugh will be any where near a #1. Specifically a high #1. First, Jim is under contract for only one more year so the team that ends up trading for him, has to be able to work out an extension with Harbaugh. So Harbaugh will have a ton of say in where he goes. Also, he is gone regardless of whether they trade him or not. SF will try to get a bidding war between the Jets and Raiders, but Harbaugh will be the only one deciding where he goes. I would say the comp will be a 4 or a5, with an outside shot of a 3.
That said, he is worth it. Then give Jax their choice player and multiple #1s to assure the top pick.
If Harbaugh comes on board, we could pilfer SF's roster. According to Over the Cap, SF is about $9M over the cap next year with Gore, Crabtree, Iupati, Culliver, and Cox all free agents.
I would cut Harvin and use the $10M annually to sign Crabtree. If we could get Iupati, we are off to a great start to our rebuild.

I like Harbaugh. I dont think that is a surprise to many of you here. I've mentioned him being my personal favorite choice numerous times. I'd even go as far as giving him a Billy fawkin Bellichick role for us. That all being said, I'd have to imagine San Francisco's asking price has to be at least a first this year/next year and truth be told I'd rather not do that. Not with young guys like Adam Gase, Kyle Shannahan and Pep Hamilton becoming available soon.
We need a QB in the worst way and with Jameis Winston playing like he has the last few weeks, I'd much rather save that pick and either package it in a deal for Mariota or take Amari Cooper, a developmental guy in the later rounds, and roll with a vet like Bradford for a year (really want Mariota though so hopefully a trade would be the use).

Since you've changed your views on Winston, you may need to swap him out in your sig for Cooper. Regardless of whether Harbaugh stays in Frisco or goes to the Raiders, it would seem that the #1 pick in the draft can be had in a trade. I would imagine that either Frisco or the Raiders would be willing to swap #1 picks with the Jets in exchange for additional picks. The round and year of the additional picks will be based solely on how Mariotta is viewed in the draft. If he becomes head and shoulders above all other QB's, the price could be steep. From my perspective, I would be willing to pay whatever it takes. Earlier in the year, I liked Winston better, but after watching a few Oregon games and learning more about Mariotta, I believe he not only has a unique skill set, but also possesses the intangibles necessary to succeed as a QB in the NFL. If you team Mariotta up with a new O minded HC like Bill Lazor, the Jets could finally have an NFL offense.

I think Lazor and Mariota would be a great fit for us.

This should be the primary objective of the Jets offseason. Rex is a fucking dunce and whoever is in favor of bringing him back should lobotomize themselves with a dildo. It's time to totally clean house from top to bottom. Throw the bank at Jim Harbaugh and give him full control then do what it takes to draft Marcus Mariota in April. Designate Mike Iupati as your primary target in FA to shore up the OL, add a CB like Byron Maxwell or Chris Harris, and retain Harvin. A major, drastic shakeup is what is needed. Can't stand another year of this total ineptitude on offense.

You won't be able to get both Mariotta and Harbaugh. It will take at least a 1st and 2nd round pick which is a kings ransom. I like Harbaugh a lot but that's a lot to give up. Plus there are other real good young up and coming coaches including: Kevin Sumlin, Pete Carmichael, Adam Gase, Kyle Shanahan, Todd Bowles, Dan Quinn, and so forth...
