Petty should be starting it serves no purpose in starting a 37 year old backup QB. Lets see if Petty is the real deal plus he gets the experience. Only thing Mcown does is possibly screw this team out of picking a top 10 QB next year but these are the Jets who have the dumbest people in charge. Only possible reason to start McCown would be Petty's health. As long as the knee is fine, Petty should be out there week 1. Hack gets the Eagle game on Thursday. Petty starts against Buffalo week 1, McCown is his back-up. Hack should be on the practice squad. I do not see another team picking him up and giving him a spot on the active roster after his pre-season performance.

Do we even have a 4th string? Who knows when Bubba Bowles will decide. In presser last week he said he would make decision early this week. We don't have 4th string -- may need to sign a street FA this week just to have another warm body in the event that Hack might misread a defense, not see a free blocker and get his head taken off.

Was Petty really that good or did the Midgets give us those 26 points to help their stadium mates save face? I was thinking he was that good but in the morning I put on my tin foil hat and realized there might be more to it.

But at the same time, he did not have the opportunity against the Giant #1 defense -- and when Hack faced the Giants 3s late in the game he drove right down the field. The way I look at this, Hack has had the chance to play against 1s and failed miserably. Based on his play against the 2s and 3s, I think Petty has earned the opportunity to start. He may fail miserably against 1s as well. But he should get the opportunity.

At this point Petty is the #2 in my opinion. McCown was bound to get the nod to start, but unless I miss my guess the Jet fans will get a healthy dose of both Petty, Hack and sound beatings. My expectation is to have a few of young players emerge. That includes Hack, but I'm not holding my breath. I do predict Petty will have a multi-year career in the NFL as a backup, with or without the Jets.

If this was a true QB competition Petty won the job hands down.
And I don't like him because he has a face like a melted welly.

I think they all along wanted the vet out there for the first half of the year, to help evaluate and develop the other young players on offense. Whether that happens or not remains to be seen.

Brady was not considered a franchise QB until he got tossed in there and never looked back. This regime has no balls and is always looking for the safe option at the QB position.

IF our defense lives up to the hype, and plays like a top10 defense; stopping drives and getting short fields for the offense, then think about safely using BP as a spark plug. But if the D isn't there...nothing will save us.

And then think about Hack and recreating what he did in college. Don't think about Petty being much worse than college. Don't think about Hack somehow being much better than college. Btw, 52% comp guys don't become 62% comp guys in the NFL. If the lights came on for Petty, he could be a player. _
