Hey did u hear about the nurse in Germany who killed 86 people?... I'm sure you"ll be fine though... I am at home -- no need to worry about German nurses. My wife, on the other hand is another story. From the look on her face when I told her I plan to get back on the bike after I am healed up. She will probably kill me anyway.

Broken ribs take 6 weeks to heal. During that time take it ezeeee. Do nothing to offset tre healing process or it'll just take another 6 weeks. _ Trust me, there ain't much I can do right now. Just coming downstairs this AM to get a cup of coffee was a major effort. Going to be a long few days until this starts feeling better. Middle aged men should neither wear spandex shorts nor ride bicycles. Maybe after I heal up I should try water aerobics with the old ladies. Probably more my speed. FTR, the rest of us make fun of you guys wearing your tights.

Hey Lith, sorry to hear. But awesome that you've taken up cycling! You'll be back in the saddle within 3-4 weeks if you want to be. I was riding lightly after 2 with my last broken rib, about the same for my scapula fracture. For a bunch of weirdos in spandex, cyclists definitely make up a tough lot. What ribs you broke and where on the rib will dictate your recovery rate, but as Stokes said, complete healing will be ~6 weeks. Green is right about the pills, too. Use them to facilitate your breathing, that's it. If you can breathe fairly deep and deal with the pain, do it. And as G said, please, for the love of all things good and holy, DON'T SNEEZE the first week or two. Most important question; how's the bike? I used to ride -- but that was about 25+ years ago when I did triathlons. Was just getting back to it this summer after all those years off the bike. Was having a blast -- group rides on the weekends, solo during the week. Was planning on a 50 mile Labor Day ride with a couple of guys on Monday. Obviously that's not gonna happen now. I will get back to it -- probably on a trainer through the winter, but I will definitely be back on road in the spring. Bike is okay -- will have to have it checked out when I am up and about. But I managed to ride home close to 10 miles after the crash last night. My choices were 4 miles through the hills, 10 miles on flats, call the wife, or 911. Didn't feel too bad at the time so I chose the flat ride home. I probably don't have to tell you this, but never, ever, ride without a helmet. My head hit the ground pretty hard -- I don't even want to think about what could have happened it I wasn't wearing a helmet.

Pretty damn accurate -- although I ride much faster than that.

Haven't hit my head yet, fortunately, but I've seen plenty who have, sans helmet. Never a good outcome. Heal up quickly!!!
