disclaimer: i have been and still am in favor of tank mode. i also wanted bowles fired after his week 1 clock management. lose, but lose with dignity!
anyway, Bowles should be coach of the fucking month, or something. the following are some teams which have less wins than the jets, and the talent that should theoretically be lifting them:
chargers (w/ philip rivers) raiders (w/ mostly derek carr) bengals (w/ dalton, green) texans (w/all world rookie qb and jj watt) titans (w/ supposedly elite OL and 2nd overall pick qb) giants (w/ eli manning and formerly obj/some former jets)
those are supposedly far more talented teams with far more accomplished qbs. say what you want about the easy schedule, but bowles (and mac) deserve kudos for getting the most out of an inexperienced and questionably talented roster. also props to john morton and the people who hired him for general competency
i agree with woodcock - progress is the goal and its already happening. add some more talent, especially on the OL, and one promising QB and this is a contender - something each of the above teams expect to be

Morton deserves a lot of credit and this defense is for the first time looking dynamic as Bowles' did in ARZ.
I agree - was rooting for a tank. But I remain heartened that the draft looks at least 3 starting QBs deep and that, too, modern football rules seem to make the transition perhaps easier than it used to be - from college to pros. Wether it's Wilson or Dak or Deshaun or Carr or Bridgewater - guys are succeeding to a greater degree without being obvious 1st round talents.
That doesn't mean the Jets haven't been desperately bad at finding QB talent - but the odds are greater that they might find someone outside the top 3.

Coach of the month? Maybe. Jets have played well for a three game stretch. More than any one thought they were capable of.
Man for the Job? Three game sample size versus 32 from his first two seasons. We are beating some very bad teams.
If we were doing this with a young QB playing I would feel much differently about the season. I cannot get over my belief that this all hurts us in the long run.

I'm not ready to say Bowles is the next Vince Lombardi, but how can you not praise the guy for the job the team is doing. The team is out performing most people's expectations, which is almost always accredited as the head coach doing a good job. I realize what Bowles has been the last couple of years, but sometimes people do get better at their jobs. I know its going to upset some of you, but Bowles is probably coming back next year.

It's like some people didn't even watch the game and just looked at the score. The fucking Browns kicked our ass yesterday.

As usual the Jets are snake bit. They really should be 0-5 with the way they've played.
They got Miami at home with Cutler being the shitty Jay Cutler
They got the Jags at home, with the Jags coming back from London the week before. Blake Bortles couldn't hit the side of a fucking barn and the Jets win because of two long runs.
They go on the road to the Browns, the Browns run up and down the field on them in the first half and Kizer completely fucks things up inside the 10 not once...but twice. Mind you - none of Kizer's errors were the result of good plays by the Jets Defense...he simply gave the ball away....twice.
The Jets have done just enough to screw themselves for draft position next year.

Lets see how the team plays against NE next week. NE hasn't looked good. They are far from the amazing team the "experts" promised. If we compete next week then I have to say Bowles has improved. Hopefully the Jets are healthy for the game. Ealy was missed yesterday.

Todd Bowles came in with a lot of backing from a lot of Heavies in the NFL. He is definitely done a good job replacing members of his coaching staff that are better teachers and they're doing a great job with the young guys. I think Mike mack is doing a fine job as well despite the Christian Hackenberg Devin Smith fuck ups. What it really comes down to is whether big mac can actually trade up and make a deal if we actually have any of these young qbs on our radar in the draft next year.. I'm actually very happy about guys like Eli McGuire ardarius Stewart Marcus Maye these are guys that should be able to play and learn and develop and with good coaching they will and you're seeing flashes. They have to be taught how to win and that winning is a habit and a culture, the GM brought and great guys who seem to be clicking and have good chemistry. Remember this is the NFL and all of these guys are incredible athletes and worthy of being there even if some of them seem to suck when they get their few chances. Again it's all on Big Mac if we win five to nine games and fuck herself out of good draft position to make the kinds of deals that he needs to make to move up. I still think we see Bryce Petty get his chance this season and I think he's worthy and we will be fucked if we let this guy go I think he'll be successful someplace. I keep thinking McCown's legs are going to get pretzels up at some point and we're going to see Petty Light It Up

Don't pooh pooh the 3 wins. It's hard to win in the NFL. Just ask the steelers and cowboys who are both way more talented than the jets. The team's job is to win the game ... not to gain more yards or get more 1st downs. While those may be goals in game planning, once the ball is kicked off, all bets are off and the objective is to score more points than the other team. So, the Jets did their job in 3 out of 5 games. I don't care who the opponents were. That was an accomplishment. Especially for a team most considered the worst in the NFL.
I think what we are witnessing is competence. It's not something we've seen for a long while so a little confusion from the fan-base is understandable. Rest assured, in the long run, it is a good thing.
While I can be counted among those who are disappointed at what this may mean as far as draft position, I take solace in the fact that a QB taken at 1 or 2 would have so much higher expectations than one taken in the middle of the first round or top of the second. That combined with the depth at the QB position still makes me believe we can solve the long term answer at QB in the draft. I'd still love to have Darnold or Rosen, but if someone among the other QB's possesses leadership skills, accuracy and a documented history of playing well in the clutch, that could work. If Morton can turn McCown into a 70% passer, perhaps he can also develop a young guy who has the necessary tool and make-up. Such a QB may be well-served by the less than sky high expectations of taken at the very top of the draft.
That said, it is possible that this team could finish 3-13.

I would say the team has displayed competence and that is a credit to Bowles. I always felt that Woody gave Bowles and Mac some assurances prior to the season and the fact that expectation are so low only helps them.
I think the worst this team finishes is 5-11. So we are either going to have to trust Mac with another 2nd round QB or trade a couple of drafts.
