It strikes me that the US is so good at war only because we've fought in so many for the past 300 years. Add up how many days the US has been at "war" someplace in the world over the past 300 years and compare it to the middle East.... Experience, teaches how to train and what works and does not work. We're only really good at it because we've done it so much. Unfortunately, when your favorite tool is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

Then...this Country was about as un-interested and unprepared for war as it ever was in the modern era. Virtually... isolationists. Where did that get the 1,177 kids on board the Arizona that never saw another day? Or the thousands and thousands that died... in two different theaters... afterward? I hate seeing kids dying in far-flung lands for towel heads who havent evolved into Democracry yet and hate us...yet I'm happy our hammer is shined and ready to go. I dont know where the happy medium is.

Do we consider ISIS an Arab army? They dont belong to a particular nation but their soldiers are mostly Arabs. They had a nice run before the Mad Dog was unleashed. He made them the JV team again.

Unless you feel our middle East campaign has been worth the cost in lives and money.

I think we feel we are some sort of protector. And we need a hammer. Tissues don’t work with those kinds. _

I dont know what the answer is...other than we shouldnt be so quick to try to impose Democracy on people who havent evolved in to it..or ever fought for it on their own. Where is the line between arrogance and benefactor. I dont know.

Then when Obama pulled out I was really bummed and it seemed like it would just go in the shitter. Say what you want but the Iraqis are doing a lot of the heavy lifting over there to get their country back. I just hate to see Iran is so heavily involved in their business. I think a big problem over there is that people identify as a tribe or religious sect, and then identify as a citizen of a particular country last. I am hopeful that after this long painful period Iraq can unify, and settle their differences going forward peacefully. God knows they've been thru hell. I really do wish them th best.

Yeah I have noticed that. I feel like I missed something. Or they are just laying low waiting for their next attacks. That shit is impossible to "defeat" anyways. It's not a group, it's a way of life for half the damn planet. They are fighting a "holy war" jihad. There is no winning the shit. So..... what happened?

Tissues don’t work with those kinds. _ I grew up on a steady diet of war movies. We were always the good guys and heroic as hell. I can't figure out if I liked those movies because I thought wars were heroic, or if they conditioned me to believe war is heroic. I really think when you put this era in the rear view mirror in a hundred years or so, we'll be remembered as the world's cop with an itchy trigger finger. And I like the hammer analogy. Our hammer is spectacular. Who wouldn't want to show it off?
