They’re either signing Cousins or re-signing McCown and taking a QB in Round 1, period.
I refuse to believe that Macc and Bowles are so goddamn stupid that they don’t realize they have to do whatever it takes to get a QB this offseason.
Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Johnson & Johnson made that abundantly clear before signing them to an extension.
It’s going to happen. Hack possibly sticking around as the #3 QB on the roster doesn’t change that.

Yup. Hack may stick for another year behind a vet and a high draft pick, but no-one is pinning their future on him.
Petty is toast, and Hack might be if he can't beat out Joel Stave for the final QB spot.

Nothing will change as long as rubes keep forking over money to Johnson and Johnson

Nah keeping him for a cheap rookie contract != not looking for another QB. We are getting one one way or another. Let's just hope he doesn't blow.

If we pass on a QB, any QB, at 6 or fail to trade up for one I will lose my shit. We passed on Carr snd Teddy because we had Geno and he sucked but actually played. We can not allow Hack to stand in our way of taking a QB. _

I'll add Teddy and a drafted QB scenario simply because it's my ideal. But no matter, they need to take a QB. I'm giving Mac the benefit of the doubt that he understands this. If he doesn't, he's getting fired sooner than later anyway.

They will draft a QB or I will go a second straight year without watching the NFL.

Absolutely! Heard him being interviewed on Boomer at 9:30 this morning ... they asked him about Hack not playing ... hit him with good, definitive questions. His answers never touched the subject. The impression I was left with based on the little he did say is that leaving Hackenberg on the bench was totally a coaching decision, that he had virtually nothing to do with it. Maccagnan is a fucking idiot. A man with the face of an idiot, destined to never put together anything worthwhile.

This says all why I really dont believe Jets are going after Cousins or drafting a QB early. No urgency the owner doesnt care. Mac is a in the box GM, why I dont see him draft a QB at 6 is that QB wont be a BPA or a safe pick. Mac likes to play it safe in the first round. If you look at his best players he took they were all gifts. Williams rank #1 Adams #1 Mayes by some estimates should have went in the first round look at his other picks most of them havent look good. Mac is stuck in a box and when he does screw up he wont admit it.
I dont believe for 5 mins Bowles decided not to play him. I believe botb decided that they need to cover up the fact that Hackenberg was a terrible pick and tbey dont want the media or fans to see it. The fact that this GM passes this dismal 5-11 season as progress when he has drafted for 3 seasons is laughable.like I said this guy had 3 seasons of drafts 3 players he pick actually are good. I still see him going Mccown and waiting mid rounds to grab a QB by him going early for a QB will say to media and the fans that he has quit on Hackenberg. Mac will never open himself to criticism.

Macc tried trading for Cousins after Geno had his jaw busted and there were multiple reports that the Jets were trying to trade up to #2 for Wentz two years ago before the deal fell through. The Jets are going to either sign Cousins or take a QB in the Top 6. Period. As I said, Macc and Bowles are basically on 1 year contracts. You’d have to have fucking rocks in your skull where your brain should be in order to roll with a 39 year old journeyman behind center in that scenario.

It's silly to think they didn't play Hack to cover anything up. He played ok in the preseason and him playing a bit of a game or not wouldn't have any real bearing on his evaluation in the media. He doesn't play - he must be terrible. He plays and does nothing - he's terrible. How awesome could he play in a quarter or two of ball @ne to change anyone's minds?? And even if he was awesome the story would be - OMG Bowles and Mac are terrible for keeping him on the bench.
Having Hack or not is going to have zero bearing on if Jets pick a QB at #6. Do you think Elway isn't taking one at #5 either, because he picked Paxton Lynch in the first round in the same draft?
I also think that one of the QB-needy teams is going the vet route. SOMEONE is signing Cousins. SOMEONE is keeping or signing Eli. And maybe Alex Smith.
With CLE, DEN, JETS and NYG all 'needing' QB - I still think those four slots result in 3 QBs taken - at most - maybe only 2. So while Darnold and Rosen remain long shots for us, choosing from the whole second tier of Mayfield, Allen, Jackson is a real possibility.
