Wouldn't it be funny if no team talks to Cousins once he gets hit with a tag? Lol Redskins would look like dickheads, just wasting time. Messing up their cap space. You can rescind a transition tag. They’d still look like dickheads but it wouldnt cost them. _ Not if he signs it and forces their hand

My take is this, draft either Mayfield or Rosin (Darnold will be gone). Save the FA money it would take to get Cousins and use it to upgrade other areas of the team. Sign McCown at a reasonable price, if it turns ot he wants too much, move on and keep Petty. I don't think having a veteran QB as a mentor is that influential for a young QB. Let the QB coach teach Mayfield or Rosin. Mayfield, Allen, and Rosen may all be gone by the #6 pick, in addition to Darnold. In all likelihood it will take trading up in order to secure an impact QB - if there even is one that will match Cousins' productivity in the near future. So those people complaining about potentially overpaying for a mediocre <sarcasm> 4,000 yards per season passer should also consider that for the cost of Cousins we would also be receiving... - The sixth pick in the draft
- Potentially two second round picks and/or a future first round pick
...which we would likely be needing to give up in order to leapfrog other teams vying for the top QBs in this draft. Not a bad deal, even if you think we'd be overpaying for Cousins alone. Giving up those picks would be putting us in a position where we'd need to build through free agency instead of through the draft - which is the often-traveled path to short spurts of mediocrity (at best). If we can't land Cousins, this might still be the plan we need to follow to get a legitimate starting QB, but we'd be fools to not consider Cousins "option A". SaveSaveSaveSave

I'm not anti-Cousins and he has put together some really productive seasons with Washington. I just don't want to overpay for him. He could very well be the individual to elevate the team and finally become a "franchise" QB for the Jets. My mind set is let's get a guy who is going to be a Tier I QB for the next decade. While there are no givens in the NFL based on failure, injury or other intangibles, I'd personally want Darnold, Mayfield or Rosin. If it takes giving up some picks then that's what it takes. However, with Smith moving to Washington, Elway very high on Cousins, I think the Jets are in a good position to get 1 of the 3, ideally without losing any picks. However, if it takes draft picks, that's what it takes. I think the Jets need to actively bid for Cousins, if nothing else to run his price up for Denver.

If Denver signs Counsins then I have to believe one of Darnold Rosen or Mayfield will be available at 6.
Problem is, so in all likelihood will Allen and I hope Mac dies the right thing.

NO ONE has posted thoughts about the possibility of other clubs jumping the line to get one of the better QBs. KC now has to be in that group.
We did it to get Sanchez, and there are better options available this year.
Unfortunately, no matter what happens, I think we get buttfumbled once again.

KC isn’t trading up for a QB, the dumped Smith because they have Pat Mahomes. Clearly there are other teams that could trade up- Buff, Miami, AZ to name three but we’re in the best position to do so on the 6. Trading back a spot or 3 is much more palatable than trading back to 11 or 15 or 20. _

They moved up from 27 to 10 last year to take him. He’s their franchise QB. He’s why they cut ties with Smith. They aren’t trading up again for a QB. But hey, if they are, I’d trade them the 6 for Mahomes right now. _ Edit: They aren’t dumping $120 million on Kirk Cousins. Mahomes is their QB of the future. That’d be one of the last places he’d sign. Pat Mahomes, the fan favorite? Looking over his shoulder? _
