I'm 100% pro-2nd amendment, but there is zero reason for the average citizen to have an AR-15. I'm not, not anymore. The 2nd is why nothing can really ever get done. It needs to go. We're not overthrowing the Government any time soon with a fe dipshit rednecks and their AR-15's. Millions of guns out there already, billions of rounds of ammo. I dont have to like it, but it is so. Hence, I will be armed and so should any other law abiding citizen who feels the need. If there was trained, armed security at that school, this discussion might not be happening. That is the reality. Wishing the second amendment away ignores the reality that bad guys can...and will..always be able to get guns in this country..and, naturally...so should you.

What makes you say that? You know much about them? I know enough to know that the average citizen doesn't need an assault rifle to defend his home and loved ones. The only reason the government didn't go all Waco/Ruby Ridge on Cliven Bundy was because they had militias there with some serious firepower. The second amendment isn't there to allow you to protect your home from thugs, it's the last defense against corrupt government.

Someone define "common sense" for me as it pertains to gun laws. Always hear that phrase but what does it mean. Whose "common sense"? Our "common sense" up here in NY is probably different than a rancher in Texas.
Like 32 said, gun laws are just one of the many factors in this. And you can make an argument that they will likely have the least impact. Why? Because what to do about the HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of guns already in existence? Sure, being able to buy an AR-15 makes it easier but if someone really wants to create carnage they will find a way to obtain the necessary tools. Banning AR's tomorrow does not fix that. We have seen this many times.
Confiscation. Shit or get off the pot. Tired of this argument.

Strange. But if you wouldn't do it, I guess that solves that.

You might be referring to the Sandy Hook shootings? The kid was profoundly mentally disturbed (institutionalized once upon a time, but now "mainstreamed")..and his mother kept guns in the house. Two issues colliding head-on, imho. Def. worthy of discussion.

Banning the sale of guns that can kill large amounts of people in small periods of time would be a great start. No one needs an AR15 type gun to protect their family.

How to reconcile this with the Second Amendment rights is a problem. Dont need automatic weapons or assault rifles in the hands of civilians. I'd be lying if I said I knew how to pull this off with the NRA looming. Imho, the NRA would do well to concede this, while securing the rights to own other personal defense weapons..but they are in defensive attack-dog mode. Siiiiiigh.

Mental health reform and gun control.
Between the 2 you would think we could get much farther much faster with mental health reform. Benefits more immediate and far reaching.
I'm neither anti or pro NRA...but reality is these weapons aren't disappearing any time soon. No amount of legislation is going to make that happen.

Like I said the last time, I would be willing to do it just as a social experiment bc the cynic in me believes it wont make a difference and I would like to stop arguing about it. There are so many other deep-rooted issues at play here. The evil, sickness and rage will find a way.

Aaaaaaaand not surprisingly, I'm reading in the daily snews the FBI was contacted about this guy previously because of social media posts. Did they contact him? If so, did he buy this weapon before or after? Seems everyone knew this kid was a loon.
