So $22 million (guaranteed) a year for 3 or 4 years is the base line. We arent paying a QB until after the new CBA. So the issue becomes the picks. It will be at least a first rounder plus the money.
We haven't had a decent pass rusher since Abraham and he was drafted almost 20 years ago. Before him was Gastineau.
I would do it. We have just as good a chance as drafting another bust with Mac (unless we suck and someone falls in our lap again) as anything. Mack is proven. And watching him pretzel Brady will be worth it.

ITs not just the picks. This roster will have so many holes heading into 2019 that I am concerned about the picks and the money. All of these guys are free agents in 2019: McCown Powell Enunwa Kearse Pryor R. Anderson (RFA) Sterling Tomlinson Carpenter McLendon Henry Anderson Martin Skrine Claiborne We might be okay on the defensive side of the ball. Nickerson/Jones/Robinson e hopefully can replace Claiborne & Skrine. Obviously, if we have Mack, it is no issue letting Martin walk, and the two DLs should be easily repalceable -- with Williams, Pennel, Shepherd and Fatukasi, we would just need a couple of rotational guys who should come cheap. But the issue is the offense. We are going to need a back-up QB, 4 WRs, 1 or 2 TEs, and a guard to replace Carpenter. And this is even before considering how to upgrade the rest of the OL. If we sign Mack, assume he will take a $35MM cap hit for 2018 & 2019 combined -- if we structure a deal with lower cap charge in early years. Spotrac currenlty has us at $83MM cap space next year. Sign Mack and we are below $50MM. Figure on needing $7.5MM space for a draft class and to have some roster flexibiltiy heading into the season, and we would have ~$40-45 mil to spend. That is not a lot considering the holes on offense and no draft picks in R1 or R2. Mack is a great player, but the cost is significant -- 2 premium picks and $35 mil cap space. That is the equivalent of 6 potential starters. Signing him would limit our ability to build an competent offense around Darnold. I would prefer if we pass on Mack and focus on the offense: spending premium resource to protect Sam and surround him with weapons.

If they are really demanding two first rounders then Chucky can blow it out his ass. I respect your opinion. But I have little faith in Mac's ability as a GM. So if Oakland's price is one first rounder (which is what I think it really is) then I hope he pulls the trigger. The greatest ability Mac has shown as a GM has been to not overthink a sure-thing. If this was a GM I had confidence in filling out a roster with mid-round picks and some value FA signings then I might be on your side here. IMO he can just as easily blow the money on JAGs and the picks become nothing.

Just glad that he is going to the NFC. Let Aaron Rodgers worry about him now. And lets focus on building an offense and hoepfully finding an edge in teh draft.

For one first rounder, I would have definitely done it. But there was no way it was ever going to be just 1 first rounder.

It will be interesting to see how he does with the Bears.

For that price Im glad we didnt do it. I am surprised someone was willing to go that high. Do the Bears have an extra first-round pick?
