And here's a challenge to the board... Stop thinking about the way it's always been: The franchise QB. Think out of the box. Think baseball where they have a range of pitchers for different opponents and circumstances. Why couldn't a genius coach and GM work a scheme where we have 2 franchise QBs? Aside from the fact that we have Bubba but that could change.
And don't start with money is the issue. Yes, now, when only one may live, franchise QBs can command budget breaking salaries. But if we break the mold and dominate with 2 franchise QBs, simple economics says salaries will come down and accommodate the new reality.

I like this idea the only problem I have with it is the money aspect you mentioned can be fixed. I don’t see how an agent won’t try to convince his client to hike his price over the other qb. We just saw Sam drag us out for the contract, imagine having to duke it out with two. Most guys want to just play the game, but when they have other factors in their ear, this idea may not get far. I still like it and it would be pretty interesting if that scenario ever played out whether it be with the Jets or any other team really.

Agree but as pointed out in the other thread if we stick with it for this year it's only a 6 mil gamble, with no worries about injuries (like Philly last year) and can still dump one in FA or draft if it doesn't work out. it's worth a gamble IMHO. Trading Teddy now would just be dumb.

Hell, I think the jets tried it with Tebow and sanzhez (although both were definitely NOT franchise QBs). Problem is if one of them is better you want him in all the time no matter what. Plus, it would probably stump Darnolds growth to have him playing like every other week depending on the opponent. I’d be OK wth keepin both on the roster but one as the backup. Ala last years eagles.

I think McCown should continue to teach the kid if Teddy looks better start him first then let our future play.

Where's the gif of Tebow getting hit in the head with a pass?

The QB is the leader of the team for the most part. Sure, some players are beholden to the guy not starting just like fans are sometimes, but for the most part it's all about one guy. Justified or not, look at how the Fitz thing played out to gauge how disastrous it can be for a team when there is no consensus on who is in charge.

Teddy isn’t a franchise QB
He was on his way to becoming a career gamemanager before he completely destroyed his knee.
And if you can get at least a 3rd rounder for him, you jump on that shit. Immediately.
We’re already without a 2nd round pick next year. We need as many assets to build around Darnold as possible. It’s not like Bridgewater is going to re-sign here anyway. Why the hell would he? If he’s healthy, he could land a $16-18 million a year deal in today’s market and go start somewhere.
Darnold is the guy, period.

In his first year as a pro "Bridgewater was selected as the quarterback of the 2014 NFL All-Rookie team by the Pro Football Writers of America.[47] Bridgewater also won the 2014 Pepsi Rookie of the Year award, as voted by fans"
In his second year he went to the pro-bowl. Friday, he went 7 for 8 and 85 yards. A game manager that goes 12.2 yards per throw?
Game manager? What planet do you live on dude?
And yeah, I'm saying if he's better or as good as Sam we do throw $16 mil at him. If Sam gets hit by a bus tomorrow his money is guaranteed so we'd have to spend that if Bridgewater was available, so why not take the plunge and insure he's there if that bus comes by?

We would be absolutely stupid to trade him for a draft pick.
Starting LT or game changer beast ONLY.
Period.

The kid has never thrown for more than 14 TD’s in a season. Teddy’s main strengths are that he’s accurate in the short/intermediate game and doesn’t turn the ball over a ton. Yes...gamemanager. I could care less about some silly all-rookie team. And him being named to the pro-bowl after posting 14 TD’s, 9 INT’s and 3,200 yards just further shows how much of a joke the pro-bowl is. It should also be noted that he was named as an alternate. He wouldn’t have made it unless multiple other QB’s dropped out. No way the Jets should invest big money in him. You want a solid backup for Darnold after this season? Then go pay someone like Trevor Siemian or Colt McCoy $5-6 million a year.
