Starting G Brian Winters is out for the rest of preseason Starting LT Kelvin Beachum is out with a foot/ankle injury -- probably won't see him again in the preseason Backup LT Ben Ijalana was just placed on IR with a shoulder injury sustained in practice this week. Winters and Beachum will supposedly be ready for start of regular season -- but I will believe that when I see it. Our starting OL tonight is likey to be Qvale, Carp, Long, Harrison and Shell. That is the unit that will be protecting Darnold from the Redskins first team defense. From what I have seen, Darnold is capable of protecting himself, movement, setting protection, getting the ball out quickly, but it still is going to scare the shit out of me every time he drops back tonight. I saw that 2 hand on the ball slide that he does a thing of beauty. Let's hope he can continue that level of cognizance when heavily pressured.

Jeebus, with this O line I say we do the Hackett draw play until Darnold is out of the game. Let teddy run around. We should just let McCown run around in that. Teddy just came back from a serious injury. He's our "trade bait" if he looks great during the season. And we don't want the kid ending his career this early in the game.

Winters was hurt last year and we upgraded at Center. It's below average but not terrible and Sam moves well and has good pocket awareness. Now if we had Arizonas line I'd be shitting my pants.

A good QB can compensate, to some extent, for a weak OL. If Darnold can read the defense, knows where the pressure is coming from, know what his options are on the play, he can move in the pocket, extend plays and get the ball out quickly and make the OL look better. It is s lot to ask of a 21 year old making his 2nd preseason start. He did that very well last week, but it was mostly against 2s.
Just think about Bryce Petty last year - the guy was clueless. Seemed to have no sense for the rush or where it was coming from.

On the plus side he practiced against them this week.

Yes but we don't want an Andrew Luck case either. I just want him to be healthy as long as possible.

3 step and throw.
To a Green Jersey, or in the stands.
That's it, 3.

There is no perfect situation in the NFL. Hopefully Sam will play for the Jets for 20 years. In those years there will be ups and downs. He will behind poor lines and hopefully good ones. Have good receivers and bad. All we can hope is that he can stay healthy and make a difference for the team. I am hoping he is the QB that will elevate those around him rather than need to be elevated. If he needs the perfect situation to succeed then he isn't a franchise QB.

We have to keep him healthy through this season. Next season, we are going to have a shitload of cap space. Between the draft and free agency, maybe we can fix the o-line and get a pass rusher & receiver.
Buy your boner pants early because we could be a Super Bowl contender next season.

You cant protect yourself every play. Look at Andrew Luck. Eventually youre going to get hurt. And as a rookie you can wreck his confidence. Look at David Carr.
