Whether you want to keep Bridgewater or not, I was surprised to here Ian Rapoport say that he didn’t think the Jets could get a even 4th or 5th round pick for Teddy.

Did the NFL landscape shift over the last year, and teams don’t need good QBs anymore? If Bridge is even halfway decent, and any teams starting QB goes down early this season, I’d say a 2nd is certainly possible.

if a starting QB goes down, 8 could definitely see a second round pick. Supposedly 2 teams have inquired about him. Curious what the Jets were asking and what the teams were willing to part with.

If they can't get at least a 3 then you keep him for the year as a great backup.

Conditional Trade: A 3rd round pick that becomes a 2nd if he plays more than 75% of the other team's snaps, becomes a 4th round pick if he plays less than 25%.

Who cares what Ian Rapoport says. I havent watched ESPN or NFLN in so long I forgot these blowhards existed. But in fairness to Ian, the ESPN version of him was always worse imo.

Unless a starting QB went down, I never thought we would get a second. So many people just want to look at the way he is playing now without caring at all about the injury. NFL GMs are not going to dismiss the injury so quickly. I think in the right scenario, maybe a starter going down on a team like the Broncos or Jags, we could possibly get a conditional second like JS said. Although I would like to see the Jets make it a conditional 2nd if he plays more that 50%.
But reality being reality, I don't see the team getting better than a 3rd of 4th rounder for him.

I take everything with a grain of salt but for him to say he didn't think they could get a 4th or 5th seemed out of whack.

I can totally c Macc getting fleeced.

He probably has been told that by GMs around the league bc they want to keep the price down. Obviously his value will be based on need. If no playoff-caliber team has a QB go down then he isnt worth anything in a trade.

I wouldnt take anything less than 3rd that could be upgraded based on playing time. Up until that point he is a greater value to us for not having to force Darnold into playing. We have 2 guys not named Darnold who can run an offense. Let Darnold force his way onto the field with great pre season play and practice. If he isnt head and shoulder above then there is no need to rush.

I think if his play is even on par with theirs you play him because in theory he has a bigger upside because he should continue to improve. That being said from what we have seen so far I feel that Bridgewater with the starters could be very good.

Hold onto him if we're not getting anything better than a 4th.
If NFL teams do not value him more than that then how much would they be willing to pay in FA?
WORST CASE SCENARIO - IF we have the money, I'd even consider franchise tagging him for next season.
McCown Gone ($10M goes away) Darnold Rookie Deal (Approx. $7M Cap hit in 2019) Teddy B. Franchise Tag (Approx. $23M)
That would be $30M spent on the QB position which is about what the Vikings are spending for Kirk Cousins, Trevor Siemien this season (2018)
Jets are currently at $21.5M for the 2018 season (McCown $10M, Bridgewater $6M, Darnold $5.5M).

I not opposed but that would present the mental obstacle of the backup getting paid more than the starter. A hurdle I dont think a GM can afford to attempt bc if it fails then it becomes a meme.
