He’s had his hits and misses like every GM. All GM’s whiff, just look at Elway with Lynch and Ozzie’s recent drafts in Baltimore, they have sucked.
Adams Maye Williams Shepard Found Anderson Darnold Jenkins
Some picks have been shocking but if Darnold turns out to be a 15 year franchise QB and the best since Namath then this man is stuff of legends.

And the Vikings gave Cousins 84M guaranteed over 3 years, vs 90M over the same period. When you're talking those numbers, whats another 2M a year, especially when you havent sniffed the playoffs in years. Are the Vikings a joke too? That article is a little heavy handed.

Cousins left 6 Mill guaranteed on the table because he took the 84 from the Vikings.
Was the deal overshot FUCK YES he isn't worth 90.

I was all in favor of this.
The Jets were picking 6th and I thought we were probably walking away with someone like Baker Mayfield or Josh Allen unless we made a move for Cousins.
Cousins is a legit Top 15 QB just hitting the prime of his career. Is he Brady or Rodgers? No, but Matthew Stafford was the highest paid QB in the league prior to Cousins signing with Minnesota. This is how the market works these days. We’re going to be giving Darnold a $200 million contract with $120+ million guaranteed in 4-5 years time if he’s the real deal.

I'm fine with the way he handled the QB search. Went hard after Cousins. He blew us off, and then put us in a better draft position. Then Darnold fell to us. Boner.

Macc got killed for trading up to 3 but who is laughing now? IF Darnold is legit then he deserves the freedom of NY, without the balls to trade up Darnold is never a Jet.
He doesn’t get enough credit for trading up getting a franchise QB and still holding onto our 1st next year.

He didn't want to be with the Jets and I didn't want to give him $90M. Win/win for the Jets saved $90M overpaying for him and got Darnold, a superior QB for a reasonable rookie contract and will be the franchise QB for the next 10 years.

I am happy with the way it worked out, but I can't really blame Macc for taking a shot at Cousins. We were sitting 6 in the draft, no guarantee that one of the top 3 QBs falls to us.
Had we taken Cousins, we could potentially have added Quenton Nelson at 6, or if the Colts still took Nelson at 3, maybe Chubb falls to us at 6 if Denver takes Darnold. James Daniels or Harold Landry at 37. And Anthony Miller or Connor Williams at 49. We could potentially have addressed the major holes that everyone is complaining about.
With the benefit of hindsight, I am very happy with the way things worked out, very happy with Darnold on a rookie deal. But I can't blame Macc for going after Cousins and whiffing.

He was not going to do anything for the Jets except solidify their position as the most boring, bottom feeding team in the league. We all know his ceiling and the team isn't built to contend for the SB this year so what was the point of cousins? I'm glad it worked out the way it did although I wish Macc was better at drafting over the past 4 years to be able to have Darnold surrounded with something resembling talent at the offensive skill positions. I guess it's better to be lucky then good in this case.

At least we have a GM that understood he had to get a franchise QB for this ball club at all costs, he tried catching lightning in a bottle with Hack and Petty but at least he didn’t spunk a 1st trying like Elway and Ozzie spunk. He went all in on the easy option with Cousins and there’s no hard feelings but he quickly changed strategy and was proactive in his plan to trade up, bit of luck Darnold fell to us but Macc deserved that for pulling the trigger and having the plumbs to trade up. To many Jet fans are looking for perfection and no GM has it, perfection is getting a franchise QB in this league and it’s hopefully job done.

I get it you personally don’t like Cousins but look at it from Maccs perspective, a 30 year old pro bowl QB in his prime was hitting the market for the first time in forever and it was worth a look to solve a franchise long problem. If he landed Cousins he keeps the Darnold picks and builds around him so worth a punt. He’s whiffed on some picks but he’s hitting in the 1st and unearthed Anderson and made some nice trades like shipping Richardson for the ammunition to even move up for Darnold. He’s an average to good GM but a legend of Darnold is for real.
