Just thought I'd point a possible scenario that's right in front of us right now.....
There are many out there right now that do not think Darnold should start. Most of all, people want the Jets to hold off starting him until the Jets get through this gauntlet of 3 games in 10 days. Give McCown the veteran the opportunity to work out the kinks so Darnold can come into that has chemistry and knows where their weaknesses are and how to cover them up.
Instead, Mac and Toilet are going Darnold or bust. Remember, we could have just as easily started Bridgewater if Mac hadn't traded him already.
If Darnold suffers any kind of serious season ending injury, Mac and Toilet will immediately fall victim to being a lightning rod of criticism for starting the kid with so many weaknesses surrounding him. The criticism will be so loud that it could ultimately signal the end of this regime. They could ultimately get fired for this move.

As much as I want to echo bxjetfan's sentiments, I can't because you are actually right in this regard.
It is DEFINITELY a risk that MaccMoron and Toilet-Bowles are taking here.
I, personally, would've at least started Sam in the Jets HOME opener where he is in front of the home fans instead of on the road in a pretty hostile environment. Lot of noise up there in Detroit.

He's gonna play indoors on the road sometime. I like the baptism by fire.

I say we get these two clowns out of here and bring Chris Hansen in to see what he can do with this franchise. I bet he'd start McCown.

Darnold could get hurt just as easily in game 4 or 6 or 8 as he could in game 1, 2, or 3. The OL isnt going to magically get better by leaps and bounds in a few weeks. By this logic, might as well sit him all year to have another offseason to improve the talent around him. He's mobile, he's got good field awareness, he'll be fine.

Exactly and if they did get some kind of magical synergy going it would be with the wrong qb. Then if they change QBs and take a step back people will call for their heads then. There is no safe or perfect option. If you feel Darnold has looked good in practice and preseason and he knows the play book you play him. Enough with coddling these players.

Who cares if they get fired? I certainly don't. Just thought I'd point out that the whole firing process could be sped up substantially if toilet and Mac hang Darnold out to dry. IMO, this is worth watching. I would be absolutely mortified if Darnold fell victim to injury when everyone and their brother tried to tell those idiots to wait. Take a fucking chill pill. It doesn't have to be a big rush. But if it happens? I'll be advocating their dismissal as much as anyone - and so will you... Not that you're not already wishing they be fired.

But make no mistake about it if Darnold goes down because Mac neglected the OL 4 years running and Toilet chose to start him knowing how poor this OL is playing? The fan base will go fucking snake shit in anger.
