Is their INCONSISTENCY............
Yesterday for me was a return of this team to the team we saw tear the Lions a new ass. They looked great. They played solid defense and got pressure on the QB. The offense played inspired all day as the OL played the best game I've seen them play since around 2011. The ST contributed to the win as well. They played penalty free football and didn't shoot themselves in the foot.
In other words, they did all of the things I no longer thought they were capable of doing. Over the last 3 weeks, I had come to realize that Detroit was a red herring. I had come to realize, this Jets was simply not a good team. They couldn't play penalty free football to save their lives. Their OL was fucking atrocious. Their coaches were a bunch of dingbats from hell.
So here's the obvious question.... WHY can't they play even close to that level more consistently? What this really tells me is that this CS does not know how to get this kind of effort every week.
The simple fact is, and it's a shame to be posting this, if they played like weeks 1 and 5 throughout the season they'd definitely make the playoffs this season.

We have a rookie QB, a new center and a new blocking scheme. There are are gonna be growing pains. What was encouraging yesterday was that the line played well and Sam started looking downfield and finding Robbie Anderson. That opens up everything. If they continue to play like that we are gonna make some noise this year. I just hope they keep it up.

One thing that bothered me about yesterday was the tipped/batted passes. I counted at least four and one led to an interception. Anyone know if this was a problem for Sam in college?
I remember Damien Woody or Willie Colon talking about this awhile ago and they put this on the Oline. They said when you see the D linemen go up to block a pass you gotta punch them in the stomach to get them to drop their arms.

If I’m not mistaken, on one of the pass attempts, Leo stopped blocking and allowed the guy to jump up and block the pass. Had he kept blocking, the pass likely wouldn’t have been blocked. I’m not sure about the other blocked passes.

As I recall, it was a timing route and Sammy had to hold the ball a second longer than necessary because the snap was too high. That would explain one batted pass.

The whole league is like that. Except kc. So you're response is to say that because the entire league is inconsistent that it's OK if the Jets are? All I can say is thank God you're not the HC.

We have a 21 yr old QB who if weaned correctly can be at minimum a serviceable qb for more than a decade. Most of the talent surrounding him is also very young. Hopefully in the next couple of years we can patch up the lack of talent at certain positions and vie for more than 2nd in the AFC East We're in the best position we've been in for years, IMHO.

If you expect the jets to play every Sunday like they did this week, you’re smoking th same shit that WCO is. Any given Sunday.

Id love to see a more Balanced effort, and results, week in and week Out.
Perhaps soon, building around #14, we,can have that again.
1998 For example.
You knew going in we would win, or almost win, and or kick the fuck out of teams I long for that. But for many many years in a row.
The Foundation is down. Framing the rest of the team around Sam is the challenging part.
It was so mother fucking fun to see the ball aired out. So much fun.
Reminds me of only a handful of QBs in Jet history.
I really hope say, in 5 or so years, we are talking fondly about Namath being the First Qb to win the Superbowl for the Jets.
Then the void is filled, circle complete.

Give or take 1-2 surprises, we will beat the bad teams, and lose to the good ones.
Like every year.
