In 2 weeks CJ Anderson a former RB out of work has posted identical numbers to Gurley. This has taught us that the RB is as good as the line is in front of him. So instead of wasting 20 million on a loudmouth Bell the Jets should be using that money to bulk up the Oline. If a washed up RB out of work can rack up 300 yards in 2 weeks I think a bulked up line would do wonders for McGuire/Crowell/Cannon and a draf tpick or free agent RB

I wish I had said that a month ago! Seriously though you are totally right. The problem is what team is letting good lineman go?

The line needs to be significantly better then it is, but Bell is a difference maker he adds a weapon as a receiver too. They can add both luxary of having alot of cap. Sign Bell, sign Matt Paradis, draft Jonah Williams.

People keep saying bulk up the OL with seemingly no knowledge of the FA market this year.
The OL crop is shit.
There are two solid centers set to hit the market (Morse/Paradis) and a bunch of over the hill vets at OT and OG like Jared Veldheer and Mike Iupati.
I’m all for signing Morse/Paradis, but we aren’t upgrading along the OL anywhere else in FA.
And the Jets should absolutely make a run at Bell. This offense is utterly devoid of playmakers and Darnold’s development is paramount. You frontload the piss out of Bell’s deal, run him into the ground and release him before he hits 30.

There are a couple of good OL in the draft. We should be able to get one. I dont care about BPA. BPA will be some 320 pound DL who cant rush the passer.

The Jets have a #3 pick grab Jawwaan Taylor Greg Little or Johnah Williams the Jets need that more than another pass rusher. until the Jets fix that forget about ever competing New England lack a pass rush 26 sacks this year they are in the playoffs lock up Henry Anderson long term and go all out to draft OL. The colts did it drafting 4 OL in the first 3 rounds and look at them.

Conner in Pittsburgh, CJ Anderson in LA, etc. Good examples. Excellent thread.
Let's not forget how good Thomas Jones looked here with D'Brick, Mangold, Damien Woody, Brandon Moore, etc.

We’re picking #3 in an unbelievably top heavy defensive draft. This is the biggest reason why I’ve been against a tank this year even when we were clearly out of the playoff picture. The nightmare scenario is Bosa and Josh Allen going #1 and #2 and then we have two bluechip interior DL like Quinnen Williams and Ed Oliver staring us in the face. And knowing Macc’s obsession with the whole “BAP” philosophy, you can make a good guess about which direction we’d go. I’m hoping like hell that a team falls in love with Dwayne Haskins and determines that #3 is the sweetspot for a trade to get ahead of a team like Oakland. I’d love to move down to the 8-12 range where guys like Jonah Williams, A.J. Brown and D.K. Metcalf become more realistic possibilities in addition to recouping a 2nd rounder and couple of other picks.

With the cap space available they should be doing both. They need to get Bell in with a 4 year (or at least cuttable after 4 years) deal and give Darnold some receving options. Hell play him at WR full time and arguably he instantly becomes our becomes our best WR. We have cap room, let the fucking Johnsons pay for some talent I don't give a shit if they have to overpay. In fact they should overpay these 4 years before they have to pay the QB. just throw money at anyone with any talent. I'm sick of watching and hoping JAGS turn into real players.

And concerning the OL, there’s a huge gap in the NFL between DL’s and OL’s talent wise. Generally speaking it seems good (or at the least serviceable) DL’s are easy to find (see Anderson), where as good OL’s are rare. JMO

Problem is, really good OL, especially tackles, dont hit free agency all that often, so they need to draft OL early and often, at least a tackle or two, and then maybe spend some cash on some big fatties in the middle. Do that, and the three guys you have now will be just fine.

One year wonder, genetic freak DT... sounds like a Macc first round pick in every way.

Generally speaking it seems good (or at the least serviceable) DL’s are easy to find (see Anderson), where as good OL’s are rare. JMO I think part of this is because on defense, you get teams changing from a 3-4 to a 4-3 or vice versa, making certain good, or at least serviceable, DL available for the right team/right fit because they are either too big, too small, or whatever for the new defense. We got a bit lucky with Anderson coming off and injury and the Colts changing to the 4-3... it made him expendable, and the Jets saw he might be a good fit for what they were doing on D. It feels like you get more of that on the defensive side than the offensive side of the ball.
