Probably the 2nd best ILB in the game after Kuechly.
1. Darron Lee is as good as gone (recoup another 5th/6th round pick).
2. Our LB corps is going to be fucking nutty nuts. Especially if we end up with Bosa or Allen at #3.

If you're maintaining some hybrid from of the 3-4 with bigger ILBs, then it makes sense to have some beef up front to make up for the ILBs less than ideal sideline pursuit speed, no?

Probably Drafting Bosa or Allen is probably overkill at this point but it would definitely cause opposing QB’s sleepless nights consisting of shitting their pantaloons. I agree though that Quinnen Williams is the likeliest choice if we stay at #3. Would also allow the Jets to move on from Leo, free up an additional $14 million and recoup another pick.

That's where Im at... Bosa or Allen makes this a ridiculous super unit at LB. But Williams might be the better choice for the overall front 7, especially if you can move on from Leo, and save money on the DL for the next few years.

None of these guys can officially sign until tomorrow. Barr spurned us, but I sure as hell don’t expect that to happen again.

The contract was big, but well structured. Like Bell, the Jets can cut him after 2021 (right when Sammy is due his big money) with only a small amount of dead money on the cap. Mac basically signed these guys all to three year deals effectively, which could be smart down the road.
From the Athletic:
“C.J. MOSLEY, linebacker: 5 years, $85 million
Mosley’s deal with the Jets comes with a $7.5 million signing bonus, roster bonuses of $10.5 million in 2019, and $10 million in 2020, and base salaries of $1 million (2019), $6 million (2020), $16 million (2021) and $17 million in both 2022 and 2023.
His cap hits are as follows:
2019: $13 million 2020: $17.5 million 2021: $17.5 million 2022: $18.5 million 2023: $18.5 million Mosley’s signing bonus, base salaries in 2019 and 2020, and roster bonuses are all (basically) guaranteed. He receives each roster bonus on the fifth day of that season’s league year, both of which are guaranteed for skill/injury.
The Jets can technically get out of this contract after the 2020 season, but it wouldn’t be financially savvy. His 2021 base salary is fully guaranteed for injury if on the roster on the fifth day of the league year, and $8 million is guaranteed for skill/cap. Meaning if the Jets cut him they’d still owe $8 million, plus the remaining $4.5 million of his signing bonus. They’d have $14.5 million in dead money to free $5 million.
The real out comes after the 2021 season. Mosley’s base salaries for 2022 and 2023 aren’t guaranteed. The Jets could cut Mosley in 2022 and free $15.5 million with just a $3 million hit. The hit drops to $1 million if released in 2023.”

That, combined with rollover we are guaranteed to have, should make the Darnold extension easy. The only other players in line for potentially big paydays by then would be Anderson, Leo, and Adams. We have great financial flexibility for at least the next 3-5 years.
