By the way, pretty sure we can chalk up tomorrow night in Chicago as an "L". I will be heading to the United Ctr for the game. Pretty sure the Isles have lost the last 7 or 8 times I have seen them play live.
What top 4 is even out there? And the price for a top 4 would be super high.
Agreed. Top 4 D is probably the most valuable, or one of the more valuable, assets out there. The cost to get one will be a lot. Thinking multiple picks and players... which we may have? Oliver Ekman-Larsson from the Coyotes seems to be one name floated out every once in a while.
If you go by the theory that you sell high, I was wondering what we could get in picks by sending Bailey to a contender, then package a couple of picks for a Top 4 guy who is under contract beyond this year.
Another night of 40+ shots. 12 straight periods of 10 or more shots on goal. We need Boychuk and DeHaan back badly -- not that the D was playing all that well early in the season even when healthy.
Injuries happen, and I’m sure the isles will just Weather the storm. No trades will be happening.
But I think the big failure on Snow here is that there’s no depth in the lineup if injuries happen. No one seems to be able to step in and do a good job. Also, is there a defensive coach? Richardson? Not fer nuthin, but he should be shitcanned immediately. Additionally, is there a PK coach? Should also be shitcanned. Look at how passive they are, then look at a good teams PK. Night and day.
It is not just the passive, sitting back in the box that is killing the PK, it is the inability to clear when they get chances. How many times this year, do we get our stick on the puck, fail to clear, and then end up giving up a power play goal as our PK unit gets stuck in our own end and is gassed. Seems like it happens almost every night.
I did see a report yesterday that Garth is expected to try to acquire a Top 4 defenseman. If he is going to make a move, we need to make it now, not wait until the deadline, which is likely to be too late. Here is the quote from Pierre Lebrun:
www.fanragsports.com/lebrun-islanders-would-like-to-upgrade-top-4-via-trade/ “There’s no question from what I’ve been hearing over the last couple of weeks that Garth Snow absolutely, if he thinks his team has a chance to make it, would like to upgrade the Top 4,” said hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun during a Tuesday evening radio hit on Montreal’s TSN 690. “Definitely needs help on defense.
“And I know that a lot of people are saying, ‘The Top 4? What about his goaltending?’ But I think you’re going where I was talking about last night during the Habs telecast on TSN. Of course some of it is goaltending, but look at last night. Now granted, the Islanders are injury-riddled right now and they’re missing a bunch of guys – including Boychuk and De Haan – but even when healthy I think they had an issue where they weren’t good enough. Nick Leddy is having an outstanding year, but they need help there. And that, I believe, is absolutely their point of focus this year."
Wow, I miss a few games and we have a completely different roster with players I've never heard of. They got killed tonight and still won and as usual....Barzal is fucking amazing. Hopefully once Boychuck and DeHaan come back we'll be better on the blueline because it can't get any worse. Also Dal Colle sucks poop, why did they call him up?
They had no business winning that game tonight. If it is possible for a goalie to play great and still give up 4 goals, Greiss did it. Barzal, Beau and JT are carrying this team right now, but if they can't get healthy on the blue line, and play a gazillion times better in their own end, I just can't see them making a run.
That was such an atrocious pass interference call on 3rd down before the game tying td. Just terrible.
Felt like we were playing Bama plus the refs last night. Offsides on the blocked punt was a bad call. Missed a facemask on Swift on a 3rd down run. PI was borderline at best, but they weren't calling much all game, and then to throw a flag at that stage was rough.
But still, we had the ball inside Bama's 40, up 13 with 6 minutes to go in the 3rd. Then Fromm threw the pick of a guy's helmet and the game changed. We still were up 10 in the 4th quarter, Sony ripping off some nice runs, 3 carries for 28 yards to start the 4th. And then he only touched the ball once in the last 14 minutes & OT.
Bad calls or not, we were in position to win the game and didn't get it done. That is on us. Even got the gift on the missed FG at the end of regulation, but couldn't close it out.
So, last night, we lost a game. 5th straight L and 12th in the last 16. Bailey left with lower body injury and is out tomorrow. Ladd, Pulock also left with undisclosed injuries last night, but no word yet on availability for tomorrow. Can someone give me a reason for optimism?
6th time since 12/1 that we have given up 6 goals. This team has become unwatchable--which is why I was watching a replay of the Rose Bowl tonight instead of the hockey game. At least one of my teams is fun to watch.
Hey Lith. What an impressive offensive backfield the Bulldogs have. Fromm is really good. Michel and Chubb are some frickin duo. Congrats on the win.
Thanks. Just got back from Pasadena early this AM. What an amazing game and an awesome experience. The venue, the setting, the game itself, so much at stake and an incredible double OT win for my team. Not sure I could have asked for more out of a sporting event. What made it a little sweeter was the drunken loudmouth Oklahoma fans sitting in back of us -- were celebrating as if it was over in the first half. Boy, their silence was sweet in the 2nd half and in OT. And traveling for the Dawgs sure beats traveling for the Jets -- also proves that my teams can actually win games when I show up to see them live.
As to the GA backfield, I would be happy with Chubb, but Michel is the guy I really want. Elite vision, burst, explosiveness, hands -- a complete 3-down block at the next level
We’d probably just need to get the Texans pick from Cleveland. We’re not getting Darnold or Rosen anyway like you said. But If we want to be sure we get Mayfield (or Jackson if they prefer), trading up a spot or two for Houston’s pick is much more realistic, and wouldn’t cost us more than one of our 2’s.
The Bills say hello. 2 1's, 2 2's and 2 3's. They can and will jump us for which ever Qb they want.
Not necessarily. The Bills extra picks are Chiefs (R1), Rams (R2) and Eagles (R3). All late picks. If we are picking 7 or 8 and the Bills hold say the 17th and 25th picks, someone might be a lot more willing to trade back 3 or 4 slots than going all the way back to 17 or 18. I would be a lot more worried about Buffalo if they had a top 10 pick. We need the Chiefs to win a round or 2 in the playoffs to push that second Bills #1 down further.
Pretty sure Greiss is starting in goal. If he has another bad night, we may all be doing some extra drinking tonight.
He had another bad night.
halak is dog shit, too.
Halak has been inconsistent, but he has had some good outings. Greiss has been consistently awful. I think this was his 9th straight start allowing 3 or more goals. 6 straight with save percentage less than 90%. You outshoot a bad team, at home, by 37-22, you need to win the fucking game. 5 goals on 21 shots. Awful. I don't get how has has gotten so bad so quickly. Either he is going to have to get it together soon, or Garth needs to make a move before the season gets away from us.
