I'd rather have someone with experience, but he is a former QB. The transition from different positions as a coach isn't too uncommon. Homeless Hoodie was once a wide receiver coach. And wasn't John Harbaugh a Special Teams coach who Andy Reid eventually put in charge of the Defensive Backs as well just so that he'd get on the Head Coach radar a little bit easier? Not sure but maybe. Harbaugh started out as a runningbacks and outside linebackers coach at the college level. BTW something interesting... Shipp is from Paterson and Patullo is from Hillsborough. Seems like we're going with a New Jersey theme for our hires.

If this list is accurate, it really demonstrates the importance of the QB.
The Colts and Cardinals were one more player away from the Super Bowl than the Jets, but they were in the playoffs.

Seems like a solid hire. Can't find anything negative about him.

Didn't want to start another thread on this but it looks like Chicago Bears scout Rex Hogan will be offered the director of scouting job. Sources: Jets have spoken to Bears scout Rex Hogan for Director of College Scouting position. I'm told the job is his if he wants it #nyj Combination of Rex Ryan and Hulk Hogan?

I think Pete Carroll is an outstanding coach unlike the fruad up in NE. Having said that, Seattle's performance thus far mirros that of Rex's Jets against Pitt. I guess that means Carroll is a bad coach as some have said of Rex. Comparing rex to carroll is a huge stretch. Pete Carroll has won a super bowl and completely turned around a team. He also developed late round picks and create one of the leagues best defenses.

What's wrong with him? Don't know the guy. Well.....remember how Bradway selected a Kicker (Nugent) in round 2 before?..Gene Smith has selected a Punter in round 3 before. His reason? "I rather select a starter over a backup" Going from Bradway to Gene Smith is like going from living in a cardboard box on a sidewalk to living in a longer cardboard box with a complimentary shower cap. Jaguar fans seem to like him as a scout. jungle.jaguars.com/index.php?/topic/9909-gene-smith-joins-the-jets/?hl=%2Bgene+%2Bsmith

Fins fans seem pissed. Sounds like a good hire.

At first I was shaky about Maccagnan but I have heard nothing but good things from around the league. Let's finally turn this franchise around.

Fox wouldn't be a terrible option in that scenario. Hire Gase as the HC and he brings in Fox as DC? Lol then completes the trifecta by hiring mike shannahan as the oc.

With the Jets luck Quinn will be the Atlanta Head Coach, Bowles will be the 49ers Head Coach and Marrone will get the Bears gig, leaving the old Wood man high and dry. Fox wouldn't be a terrible option in that scenario.

Losing Dunbar isn't great, but it's not insurmountable, either. Wilkerson, Sheldon, Coples were all 1st round picks and would have been successful with or without Dunbar. I think the only player we can really credit Dunbar for is Damon Harrison. That was a classic case of taking a no-name and turning him into a solid player. I think you can contribute part of that to Rex as well. Devito and Pouha had their best seasons under Rex.

now here's something that's pretty strange. woody hired idzik and allegedly forced rex on him. both guys were just fired. rex winds up in buffalo and his gm isn't afraid of him like idzik was. buffalo is actively pursuing some pretty good coaches to fill out rex's staff. the jets hire macgagnon who has a slightly better record than idzik in drafting good players although he did draft from a worse position but has a rebuilding plan. not trying to defend idzik or even want to discuss the whole rex situation anymore but what stopped the jets from getting equally good coaches for rex and even players? and while we're talking players, whose to say milliner and mcdougal don't light it up next season and vindicate idzik? all very strange. Maccagnan has never drafted players in his life. He supported the draft process but has never made the final call. What "good" coaches are joining Rex outside of Dunbar?
