Pretty sure I have told this story here but my girlfriend put the $1000 deposit down to preorder the Tesla 3. I thought it would be a fun car but then I started doing some research. Did estimates for drive time to see her daughter in SC vs gas cars. Looked into repairs and maintenance: All repairs need to be done by Tesla Because all parts also come from them you are at their mercy and it can take weeks or months for a repair. If you run out of electricity supposedly they can't be towed without causing damage so they need to charge on site which requires a special service truck. Basically they are very expensive and inconvenient toys and status symbols. We got our deposit back and she bought a CR-V Hybrid.
