It is a team sports. You could say that it's similar to football in that there are riders with particular jobs whose sole purpose is to get the leader (usually climber or sprinter depending on the stage profile). There's a lot of team tactics involved. Also, as I've said before, cyclists are some of the grittiest athletes on the planet; the antithesis of soccer. I'd like to see Doritos incorporated, but the UCI (governing body) would likely ban them. Sport of attrition for sure. Not a big fan of the sport, perfect napping TV. Fall asleep and wake up an hour later and things haven't moved. I can understand why someone would like it, just call me once the attacking part starts (I guess people feel the same way about soccer). I would love to do a mountain stage as a fan. Camp on the mountain, get shitfaced with locals and scream at passing cylistsYea that looks like an amazing time! Especially on something like Alpe du Huez. I intend to go to Belgium for the Tour of Flanders every year, but something always comes up (mostly Covid nonsense). That's a big party as well. Chaos yesterday for the final 1.5 KMs (15:30 timestamp). It was a sprint end on a F1 track, lots o' crashing.

Peacock streams it. I love the Tour. My son is a bike rider. He's done Ironman competitions and a fair amount of other races of varying lengths and I got hooked on the sport due to his involvement. On most of the stages there is a lot of strategy throughout the race. There are 22 teams with a few strong ones that tend to dominate but stages can be 'stolen' by the lass dominant teams if the opportunity (or crash) happens. As far as a soccer reference, no comparison. These guys are traveling 40kmh and they are a few inches away from their competition. A number of riders have died in bike races. In soccer the worst that happens is an ingrown toenail and hurt feelings. Yup, very true. Big penalty for going over the side of a mountain. Very cool about your son. I can't fuck with Tris, hate running and I'm a terrible swimmer. Roadies bust on triathletes all the time (terrible bike handlers typically). Ask him if he pees on his saddle, he'll get a chuckle out of that.

I've skied at least once a year for the better part of 40 years, some years 20 times or more. Prolly 10 years ago, my brain reset and wont allow me to build up any sort of speed at all. Especially on Ice and steeps. I gave zero fucks when I was 20 and without any skills at all (took one lesson my whole life) and would snow-plow down any hill with no fear. I guess its a self-preservation thing as I also gained a fear of heights and ladders I never had before. Hearing the ice grinding in that vid gave me dooosh-chills.

The slow mos of their skis bouncing up and down, carving through turns at those speeds is crazy. on board cam is even worse. Hits 130 Km:H after 13 seconds, hits 160 at the end

Same for me, previously was fearless. I'm less fearful on the MTB compared to when I first began, but that's likely a skills progression thing versus sacking up.
