This alone, in a draft with WR depth compared with the '83 draft for QB's, should be enough to send this guy walking, especially with it being one of the primary needs of the team.
just awful.

I'm not really understanding why so many are making Idzik out to be the villain and still defending Rex. If Rex's defense just flatout can't function without a pair of upper echelon CB's on the outside...then what the hell makes him deserving of this "defensive genius" label that he's been carrying around? The Jets have invested 1st round picks into the DL 3 of the past 4 years and found a gem in Damon Harrison who has developed into one of the better NT's in the league during that time. This defense is chock full of talent up front yet we still hardly ever force any turnovers and routinely give up these 80+ yard scoring drives right before the half. And why Rex still insists on having DB's playing 10 yards off the LOS when it's 3rd and 6 is beyond me. Competent offenses will eat your ass alive with slants, hitches and bubble screens all day. Did Idzik screw up with regards to the WR position? Sure, but at least he realized it and brought in one of the most explosive playmakers in football on the cheap. Suddenly going into next year, the Jets don't look so royally fucked at the skill positions with Harvin, Decker, Kerley and Amaro. And there's still the possibility of landing a guy like Amari Cooper in the draft if we miss out on Mariota. A lot of people seem to overlook the fact that Idzik has had to overhaul roughly 90% of the roster since being hired less than 2 years ago. We all went into last year with the mindset that this was going to be at least a 2-3 year fix and then the 8-8 finish duped a lot of people into thinking that this team could be a legitimate playoff contender in 2014. I don't think many here are defending Rex anymore. He needs to go. But just like some two years ago (correctly might I add, and I was not one of the L O L) said that Tanny was being used to cover up Rex's mistakes, I think Rex being a bad HC is covering for the sucktitude that is Idzik. I want them both gone. I would try to bring in Gamble as GM, he has such a wealth of experience. I think the only reason he wasn't our GM was cause Woody meddled and wouldn't allow him to fire Rex (the right call in hindsight... sadly I was one of the people calling for Rex to say so I can't really say I wasn't supporting Woody's plan).

Was Dmitri Patterson of questionable character before the Jets signed him? He was injured a lot and that was a problem with signing him, but I didn't think he was of poor character until he went AWOL in preseason suddenly.

Every GM deserves the opportunity to have the team coached by a HC of his choosing. So, idzik deserves at least one more season.
As far as his drafts, there are some issues, but it's difficult to assess the line between poor drafting by a GM and poor player development by the coaches.
As far as QB, there were not a lot of options. Geno was an OK pick as a 2d rounder, and there were not many real good options on the free agent market. I think the word is out that Rex is a QB killer and no one really wants to sign with him as HC.

Idzik don't deserve shit. He's worn out his welcome. He needs to go he deserves absolutely NOTHING. He has earned no benefit of doubt and should get nothing.

Idzik hasn't earned the benefit of the doubt and should be gone regardless of the headcoaching situation. If he'd drafted a half decent WR or addressed the CB situation with any kind of expertise we'd be an 8-8 team. Cooks, Robinson,Lee, Matthews, Benjamin, Brown, Bryant, Adams, Landry, Moncrief all of those guys were available to us in the draft and they all have catching TDs and look promising, which is more than you can say about our draft class. I didn't even mention the failure to get a guard that can legitimately start in the NFL, or a RT that doesnt get 8 penalties a game. Creating a faux competition for the starting QB was a joke, continuing the competition for QB last year cost us Sanchez who isn't great but far better than Smith and Vick. Trading for Harvin and costing us 7 million in next year's cap due to rollover was a joke. It's just too much fsilure in a short period of time.

This entire failed experiment we call the 2014 NYJ is John Idzik's doing. He sucks at the draft. He sucks at free agency. There is no way in hell I want this idiot selecting our probable top-5 pick. No fuckin' way in hell. The only thing John Idzik "deserves" is a pink slip.

This is the line that says it all for me. If a GM can't improve a team in 2 years - through the draft and FA - then he has no business being a GM. Miami's new GM, whoever he is, has been on the job for one season (well not even, 3/4 of one) and is already in the discussion for Executive of the Year for how he has improved the Dolphins roster from top to bottom.

Well he should have fired Rex last year, or not agreed to take the job unless he could have had his own coach. Instead he has put us on this treadmill of going nowhere for the last two years and wasted these two years. It's not like Woody would have had other options if he insisted on hiring his own coach. Last year's last minute extension after an 8-8 season was a huge mistake.

I had no problem with him not signing any big name cornerbacks but for someone who preaches building thru the draft it is just inexcusable to miss on almost all of his 12 picks. How do you trust a guy to build thru the draft when he picks the only two WR's in this draft class who are worthless.

Last time it took forever to hire a GM. At this point, the Jets are likely going to have no better than the 3d pick in the draft and it could very well be the 4th or 5th. Those are no good because the Jets have to, at all costs, secure a pick that guarantees they get Mariota. I would have no problem with the Jets swapping first round picks with the Raiders and throwing in some additional picks to get the #1 overall pick guaranteeing the selection of Mariota. We've all seen what it looks like when the Jets have QB's who are not very good. Mariota is a 3 year starter and runs the type of offense that seems to be the future of the NFL. He has a big arm, throws well on the run, and can hurt D's with his legs. If we fire the GM, how in the world do we work out a trade for the #1 pick? Admittedly, I hove not idea whether Idzik would pull the trigger on a trade. In this instance I hope that Woody steps in and tells Idzik to do whatever it takes to get Mariota, and that if he does not get Mariota, he WILL be fired.

You highlight a legitimiate problem but if they can act fast and there is really no reason to take months like they did last time, they should be able to put people in place within a month at most of Black Monday. If they can't Woody should fire himself.
