Valentine's Day, 1994, my daughter was born. My wife and I agreed back then that we would not exchange Valentine's Gifts or go out so as not to take away from our daughter's day. Just going to go out and celebrate my daughter's 21st tomorrow. We spent a lot on my daughter -- but not a penny on each other.

We're ditching the kids with the in-laws tomorrow at 1pm until Sunday morning. Catching up on sleep and knob-polishings. And what will your wife be doing?

I never thought much of this Valentine's "holiday." It seems so contrived. If you can't say "I love you" and do special things for each other during the year, why do it on some random day in the middle of winter? We always had our moments and fun times whenever we wanted. Well, there was this one time ... back in Boston, my husband was going to buy me some flowers, he said, on the way home from work, but "the light changed." Mr. Romantic! Anyhoo, today's Valentine's present is him coming home from the hospital, 4 weeks 2 days later. So I guess that's something to celebrate.
