What a shocker, a movie about movies/actors wins the best award. Hollywood loves hearing/watching about itself and this "awards" show is the ultimate in self idolization. And how weird that they don't give a "best" actor or actress anymore, it's now "award for performance as an actor", HUH? they were all performances?!? how do you awardd one if it's not for the "best". Total PC just like the rest of the world where you have to get an award for participation, not allowed to make someone feel bad for saying someone else is better And I watched maybe the last ten minutes and in that am't of time heard three pleas for awareness - ALS, Alzheimer's and Mexicans. They should call these the Awareness Awards Weird, contradictory post, VTN. First you chastise Hollywood for being too narcissistic. Then you mock them for calling attention ("awareness") to several medical/ social causes. The Oscars are a huge, global platform. Why not make take a stand on these issues. Also, I saw all the nominated flicks. If anything, "Birdman" showed more of the underside of Hollywood. I would have voted it the best picture, with "imitation Game" and "Boyhood" as a very close second and third.

Budapest is awesome. You just hate Wes Anderson. In other words, fuck you.

Budapest is awesome. You just hate Wes Anderson. In other words, fuck you. Anderson is a visionary storyteller/filmmaker. Forget it, south side. JW would deride Hans Christian Andersen's work as "unrealistic buffoonery". Anderson is a visionary set-piece designer. He's amazing at it - but the human qualities of actual characters get lost on him.

His characters may not be your every day "human" but he makes the most interesting and intriguing characters of any director/writer out there. Every nuance, from the set color to the dialog is Anderson's creation. He's brilliant. It's ok if it's not your cup of tea. But I for one am a big fan of his work so I will staunchly disagree.

"pretentious nonsense"? Dude, you're so out-of-touch and decrepit it's not funny. You had to be an absolute hoot in college literature classes. wtf are you talking about? better yet how about you man up and tell us who you are

Anderson is a visionary set-piece designer. He's amazing at it - but the human qualities of actual characters get lost on him. You ever see "Rushmore"? That's one example of Anderson's innate ability to construct off-beat, multi-layered characters, who have many human failings. The flick is also one of the most perfect examples of effective storytelling in all three acts. There is no meandering second act malaise. Rushmore is his only "great" film. Everything since has been meh. I'd put Bottle Rocket ahead of anything since Rushmore, too.

Speaking of the Oscars, I just saw this image of Irina Shayk from last night's event. Holy fucking banana pudding is she hot. What caliber of women is Cristiano Ronaldo getting if he thinks it wise to break up with this goddess? Fuck my life. He broke up with her so he could get spit-roasted by Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema.

BOTTLE ROCKET was pretty great; so was RUSHMORE - and I even liked that one about the family in the Brooklyn brownstone well enough (until the odd last 5mins). But as Anderson has gotten more and more control, his films have grown more and more 'interior' IMO. BTW - the best movie involving a Brooklyn brownstone is THE SQUID AND THE WHALE. Nails the early 80's, divorced parents, living in the city vibe . . .
