I don't get it. Even if Johnson is gone we have Ivory, Powel and Richardson. With so many need positions how do you go with a RB?

I did a mock last night and had 2 good RB options in round 3 and asked myself the same question. Was going to start a separate thread on it today asking if we needed to take a RB assuming Johnson goes and we keep Powell and D. Richardson.

I just can't imagine taking a running back unless someone of note shows up in a late round. Way too many other needs like QB, CB, S, OG, backup C. At a minimum I think those take priority over HB unless we have an amazing FA period.

At a minimum I think those take priority over HB unless we have an amazing FA period. Have you watched Gordon? He would add a dimension of explosiveness that we've lacked and would perfectly complement Ivory. This Jets team has lacked offensive playmakers for over a decade. He's murder on screens and dump-offs out of the backfield and if you miss one tackle, he can take it to the house. You can address a lot of defensive needs as well as at QB and OG in FA. I'm on board with this thinking. We've got tons of cap space to sign S, CB, OLB, ILB, OG, and QB. Think about the releases alone that will free up cash:
Harris Colon Vick Landry Pace Johnson
But you raise a good point about RB's this year. It's very deep. Heck, Yeldon could slip to the 3rd. There are a bunch of good RB's in this draft class. And this is a passing league meaning a lot of teams won't value them and they may stay on the board. I just think Gordon paired with Cooper could give this offense the shot in the arm it has lacked forever. I'd take advantage of it and move on.

Ivory is not in his league. And when you need guys on O to "make plays" its much easier to have a guy you can simply hand it to 20 to 25 times per game who is a threat to take it to the house every time he touches the ball.

And let's face it, we aren't going to land a top QB in this draft. The residual effect is we will still need to run effectively to compete with those big-name QB teams. And Ivory isn't a spring-chicken and is injury-prone as we know. I think CJ is out. This is a need. And it could be addressed later - no problem there but my goodness, could the Jets use a player of his ability. This would be a great environment for Gordon in that he wouldn't get worn down with too many carries. He's not a physical runner.

1st round: WR Amari Cooper - Alabama 2nd round: RB Todd Gurley - Georgia 3rd round: OT Jake Fisher - Oregon I like you're thinking. the top 3 picks have to secure the BAP at QB, WR, RB, and OL. I only see them using it on a QB if one of the top 2 QB's falls to them at #4. I'd hate to see them use a 2d or 3d round pick on Hundley or some other very incomplete QB. I'd rather they spend a late round pick on a guy with some potential i.e. size, arm strength, and accuracy

I want the first 2 picks to be a WR and a RB. I would love if they traded down in the first round and took Melvin Gordon later in the first round, then took a WR in Round 2. I'd love to see them pick Dorial Green-Beckham in Round 2. I'm also a big fan of either cutting Harvin (not durable and too expensive) and using the 4th round pick to trade for Daniel from KC, or maybe even trading Harvin for Daniel. I would imagine Andy Reid would love to add Harvin to his O. Provided the Jets fix their problem at both Guard positions through free agency and/or the draft. The O would be light years better. Imagine the play making ability on the field in single back sets with Gordan, Decker, Green-Beckham, Kerley, and Amaro with Daniel under center.
