If we don't draft a QB like it or not I think GEno is our starter. If they're it, you have to let Geno show if he has improved or can't.
If we draft Mariota or a 2nd tier guy then I think Fitz becomes the starter, baring a beat down in the preseason. A young QB says Geno is on his way out, no need to see what he has

More the reason the Jets need to find a long term solution this year! Whether that is a trade or drafting Mariota ( which Im not a big fan of). The Jets realistically have a 3 window with Revis Cromartie and Marshall these guys are north of 30 years meaning the Jets have a small window to get another shot at a championship. The QB situation is bad neither Geno or Fitzpatrick are no more than a 1 year band aid. That's why drafting more defense is useless without a solution at QB. Im for using the #6 to fix that first whether through trade or drafting but to pass on this for another year will throw all the progress the Jets have made out the window.

I'm so conflicted on this, because adding guys like Revis, Cro and Marshall kind of makes us a win-now team. I think I'd like to take Mariota if he's there at No. 6 and go into the season with Geno as the starter, Fitz as the backup and Mariota third string. Then again, if it takes Mariota until year 3 to develop, then those key guys might be too old for us to make a run by then.
If we don't draft a QB, I definitely want to at least start the season with Geno as the starter. He has a much higher ceiling. Fitzpatrick is what he is, which is not so great. He's a game manager type, but not even a really good one. Chad Pennington was a game manager, but at least he was accurate and not turnover-prone.
I remember sitting at a preseason game in 2007 and having the moment of clarity, that Chad could never lead a team to a championship. Now, I have to admit I was probably wrong. If we had a Chad-like QB now, and drafted a solid running back in the first two rounds of this year's draft, I think we'd possibly be a championship contender.

I don't think anyone thinks Fitz is anything special. The only hope I am holding onto is that he had far and away his best year with Gailey. As others have said factoring in Gailey as OC he becomes the he's the best of a very sorry bunch that was available.

if Fitzpatrick starts, it's because Geno is hurt or got beat by Fitzpatrick during the offseason. in either case, it's bad news for the Jets.
to put it simply, Fitzgerald was brought in as a seasoned backup who is familiar with the system and will (hopefully) help Geno grow into a better QB. he would also be a very valuable mentor for any rookie QB we might draft this year.
but if Geno bombs and Fitzgerald is our Day 1 starter, then the season is already over.

What the Jets get in Fitzpatrick is a smart quarterback who will quickly learn the new offense, partially because he has been exposed to it before. This being said, he should exhibit a good command of the offense, and make the right reads/decisions. Regarding decision making, he will not try to pass the ball behind his back on the goal line...remember that one? What the Jets will not get with Fitzpatrick is Geno's big arm, athleticism and most likely durability. I'm not a Geno hater, and when he's behind center, he's my guy. This better be the year the light comes on, the turnovers are reduced, and red zone production increases. It will be interesting to get the early camp reports as to how both are progressing. The wild card is, will the Jets draft or trade for another QB. One of the dumbest moments in NFL history.

i think with Fitz there is more of a promise of fielding a competitive team. Geno is a question mark but with much higher upside. we should all be hoping that Geno flourishes under Gailey and becomes the guy. if he sinks, and Fitz is the starter, we will be competitive and win more games this year but we'll be stuck in mediocrity. he can keep us in good shape but will never take us over the top. i hope that level of mediocrity doesn't make it more difficult for us to find a franchise qb. i put some blind faith in Gailey that he can harness the goodness in Geno, not the Genope. It will be interesting to get the early camp reports as to how both are progressing. im sick of those reports. last offseason we kept hearing how great Geno looked and how we had a real player in Jalen Saunders.

What we have needed for a long time is someone who has been in this league and has won games. Im telling you he will be a serviceable QB. With our revamped defense we wont have to score 30+ points a game. Maybe he will make Geno...better? I know Fitzpatrick has sucked...but we have seen teams sign vets and they have done well enough. do any of your posts NOT suck? please provide link asap.

Looking for Fitz to have a Rich Gannon type of revival. Gannon did nothing in his first 10 years in the league and then had 4 great years in Oakland including a SB appearance and an MVP. Fitz has actually done much more than Gannon did until he got to the Raiders and I'm expecting him to be the Jets answer at QB.

I honestly don't get the Fitzpatrick hate. I always thought he was pretty good. Is he our long term fix? No way. But I'd be satisfied with him starting next year. If Geno legitimately beats him out fine. If not fine, start Fitz. What was he rated 9th in the league last year? This team is in the playoffs if Fitz plays like that this year....

Damn bro you may be the most optimistic Jets fan I ever seen but I hope you are part right... Most of my faith lies with Chan Gailey, which I hope and believe can make Todd Bowles a superstar HC. We'll see... I'm ready for summer to end.
