Sadly, while Boston Strong was created originally in response to the bombing it's been co-opted in what I feel is a misguided way by some sports fans. Instead of "lets show unity in a time of distress" now its shown with team logos to scream...look how great our teams are. inappropriate to say the least. Boston Strong still means the bombing to me, but I can see how others take it differently. Yep. The phrase was commercialized to shit and particularly by the sports industry in Boston. So much so that it's identity with the bombing has become a secondary reference. Anybody claiming otherwise is delusional. |

Lived in RI for a bit so I know a lot of Pats fans...yesterday when the verdict came out my Facebook was littered with completely non-ironic 'Boston Strongs'. Seriously? Marriage has softened him. Now he's got a baby girl... some might think that would weaken him even more but it's actually quite the opposite. Ragu has now transformed himself into an angry dad... it spills over into his every day life. We should be so lucky. Never thought I'd say this but having a child really did save him. |
