LOL, It's actually a really well designed site. It was started up as a simple database by a husband and wife team to keep track of the wife's yarn. the wife's a knitter and yarnaholic and the husband is a programmer and he has done an excellent job. It's completely custom designed by him, and keeping track of your posts, read, participated, editing, uploading pictures, keeping track of what boards interests you, is really well done. i was going to suggest to Ragu he have a look at it (for about 2 seconds). supposedly they have 3 million registered users.

Second from right - used to have an afghan exactly like that, back in the late 70's.
And why the fuck would a blanket be called an afghan?

And why the fuck would a blanket be called an afghan? no idea about the etymology of the afghan, but the "benefit" of those shorts is they are all supposedly from recycled items, so your afghan could conceivably have been remade into one of those pairs

I wonder how much dried up DNA is in those recycled Afghani croquet shorts.

The coverlet was originally produced by the Afghans. The use of "afghan" in the English language goes back to 1833, when Thomas Carlyle mentioned it in his "Sartor Resartus."[3] The first mention of the word referring to the woven rug was in 1877." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afghan_%28blanket%29
