I was as optimistic as anyone about the new hire, but seriously... what the fuck has been going on with this team in the last month or so? Bowles always seem to be a day late and a dollar short. I'm not saying "Fire Bowles!!!!!!1!!!" or anything, but this guy doesn't seem to be too on-top of things so far. My opinion, not a good sign.

Much a do about nothing. Even Mangold said he didn't see it coming, and he's supposed to be one of the veteran leaders. I chalk this up to the left over pile of shit that Rex and Idzik left.

This is NOT Bowles fault. The Richardson incident is of his own making too. Having said that, if I was Bowles, I would send a strong statement to the entire team by parting ways with Vageno too. In my opinion, the Jets will not lose much, if anything at all, but gain plenty. Bowles has an opportunity to shed the mistake by Izdick (drafting Vageno). There is enough evidence from his body of work both on and off the field for one to reasonably conclude that he is NOT the answer to lead this franchise. Move on. He should have been cut along with IK yesterday. We will either sink or swim with Fitz this year while, hopefully, developing BP to take the reins next year.

Absolutely. Culture doesn't change until the people that perpetuate it change. I have 100% confidence in Bowles and Mac - 100% that they have nothing to do with the kind of coach(es) or front-office vibe that has been around here forever. And I would also add - Bowles came RIGHT out and said that Geno may not have his job back when he returns. That right there says a lot.

Bowles is squeezing hard; the weaknesses on what is now HIS team are starting to show. He'll beat the "bad Rex" out of the locker room, using time and common sense.
Thank you,
Shake-spere

If you look at everything from a different prospective, the Jets have been lucky ever sense TB came to town. He'll weed it out and build a winner. Todays players are a whole new breed. Mangini wanted tough, smart players. Bowles pretty much the same. He's a good example of how a professional should act. I could even see him as a father figure to some players. Theres no babysittin in the NFL.

That is a fair answer. I say Yes Enjoy your vacation!
Srssly though...I dont think Geno is a high character guy....and seems to have zero leadership ability...and he was inherited. To me, Geno's demeanor speaks of a guy who resents his job and its expectations.
Guys like Richardson....basically a perp...inherited.
I think Coach Bowles walked into a place with no recent history of discipline or professionalism, where virtual thugs were made team Captains...its going to take a while.
Personally, I'm in agreement that losing Geno and the puncher was a plus for the Jets.
Edit: Harrier beat me to it.

No offense intended to the OP, but I don't think it's a fair question at all.
First and foremost, it is entirely unfair to expect Bowles to have completely changed the culture of the team in such a short window after such a long time of a completely opposite culture.
Secondly, this incident is an insane one off situation that likely could not have been anticipated. This was not the product of "the culture" in the current Jets locker room. This was, if anything, a by product of the old culture he has yet to completely rid off. These were two guys acting like children and not thinking of consequences. Players had zero accoutibility for a long time in this organization, Bowels is trying to change that. There really isn't anything good about this situation, but if anything, it will actually expedite the culture shift, as there is now tangible evidence that BS will not be tolerated and they will move swiftly and harshly in response to events they deem unacceptable.
