I've watched both his preseason performances as I continue to evaluate my dynasty league prospects, and he's been staggeringly good. I have to admit, I didn't think he was bound for such an impressive sophomore leap. He still looks like a statue in the pocket with a long delivery but his vision/accuracy and power has been the stuff of "fuck"...
TEN trading Zach M it's going to be an en-vogue topic any day now, and a full blown headline if he's still with TEN in 2016.
No way he's on their roster by draft day next april... And while the bounty they'll get for Berger in 2016 will likely be more, I feel like the GM should consider moving him NOW, rather than later. You don't want that kind of noise on your team with Mariota. You just don't... regardless of the practicalities for keeping Mettenberger, you don't want to create a situation ripe with drama. Barring an RGIII knee-implosion in september, you have to move forward knowing it's #Mariota4life in TEN and get the other kid out. If he had to see time in the regular season b/c of injury to M.M., he's going to out play him... A rare instance of that not being a good thing necessarily.
So would rather send a 3rd round pick their way now, or see how everything plays and look to draft next year? Mettenberger is already a step up to Fitz, and depending on the lockerroom perception of Geno, might make more sense when we have to inevitably pass the buck in October.

I just can't see now as being the right time to get a deal like this done for anyone concerned, but what do I know.
If Mac wants to make a trade for him now are next off season I would be happy for that.

No way the Titans trade him this season but I'm down to trade for him in the offseason.... I beg to differ. I would argue that it's less likely a team would be willing to insert a QB into their harem after a month of TC, then it would be for TEN to hold on to him.. Honestly, what reasons would TEN hang on to him? PROS: A viable starter if Mariota goes down. (pretty strong reason, granted) CONS: Mariota could struggle (and will as a rookie) and don't want him looking over his shoulder Could have a divided lockeroom. Mettenberger already voiced his desire to be traded before his agent told him to STFU If Mariota gets hurt for a couple weeks, and Mettenberger looks better (cause he will) then you have a shit storm the longer you hold on to him, the more the GM's legacy will be tied to how Mariota vs Mettenberger plays out over their careers. I don't see the upside.

If it was up to me he already would have been a Jet on draft day two years ago. I think I had him in every one of my mocks. For the Jets to let him slide without using a 4th or 5th was criminal.
Thanks Idzik you fucking clown.

If Mac wants to make a trade for him now are next off season I would be happy for that. I agree, it's not conventional. But neither is having your starter get punched out of training camp. IF, and i repeat IF -- Mac & Co. have decided internally that enough's enough, they're moving on from Geno next offseason - then why not? You could argue that getting a guy who's trending in the right direction is as a good move as gambling on a rookie next offseason in the draft. If (again) they like Mettenberger, then waiting till 2016 means the number of buyers will escalate, and so too will the price. Plus there's no guarantee he won't be traded by the deadline to a team like HOU or someone who's discovered they have nothing at QB... Trust me, this storyline is going to pick up steam very quickly.

The Titans sent both Mariota and Mettenberger a message when they drafted Mariota: Mettenberger is not the future of the franchise. There is no serious concern that Mariota fears Mettenberger's rise. Mettenberger went 0-6 last year and then missed three games on an injury. Mettenberger still has a lot to develop, he's cheap and seeing improvement in his game would only make him a more valuable trade down the line. There's no way TEN trades him away this year.

And why do people think this Mettenberger is so good??? I do not. And I don't want us trading anything of value for him either.

And why would the Titans trade their #2 QB you think so highly of, their insurance policy, their guy behind a rookie never-played-a-snap guy? Why would they trade us their QB for our "QB Problem" exactly? And what would the cost be for their #2, possible #1, QB you think? Why aim so low if we're talking traded, why not say, Brady? I am sure he's available too, right? Or maybe Luck. Why not, right?
