This is a potentially dangerous game. On paper, all signs point to the Jets. Our Defense is hot, the Eagles couldn't score until garbage time against the Cowboys. The Eagles have injuries, particularly on D that should help the Jets running game. The Jets are at home.
In other words, this game is a total TRAP!!!
But here may be the difference - These aren't your father's Jets! These are the new look Todd Bowles Jets.
In previous years the Jets would shock everyone and upset the Patriots, then lose to the Jaguars or something. That was kinda the MO under Rex....hitting a homerun off David Price then striking out when the ball was put on a tee. The real test for Bowles & Co. is whether they win the games they should win. Can they stay up, not get comfortable, not assume that a home game against an 0-2 team is a gimme? That's the next test for these Jets.
The Jets have already passed their first two key tests in my opinion....
Will the offense be improved from last year, will it be balanced and score points? Yes. Can the defense play up to the hype they've been given this past offseason? Yes. So now we ask, can the Jets avoid letdowns and win games they're supposed to win? TBD.

I agree with everything you said.
Just remember back to our last meeting with the Eagles. We were coming in 8-5 and thinking playoffs, they were an underachieving 5-8 and they kicked our asses all over the Lincoln Financial Field turf to a score of 45-19 and it wasn't even that close.
We are winless all time against the Eagles at 0-9. Game is at home, we are playing well, they appear to be a mess, absolutely we should win this game. Hopefully we will.

The one thing I can say about this new regime, is the vibe is "no fuck around"... as in, they're not led by emotions and personal agendas. This is calculating and professional team of people from Bowles all the way to the Mac... I have confidence that "trap games" are not going to be any more of a trap, than any other game.

This game scares the shit out of me. Sometimes I like to look back at any recent successes against said team to ease my fragile psyche.
But there isn't any.

Good Post
But I agree with Paradis, the vibe with this team just feels different. Bowles is constantly preaching the "one game at a time" philosophy and keeping the team grounded, even immediately after games in the locker room. Meanwhile, Rex would take the team out for fucking pizza and give them an extra day off for every win like some kind of goddamn pop warner coach.
I honestly think this defense could be capable of some historic shit as they continue to come together and Sheldon comes back.
On offense, all we need is for Fitzy to keep looking like a competent starting QB and not suffer any key injuries.

We've played the Eagles three times in the last 15 years - once under Herm, once under Mangini, once under Rex. The only players remaining from the last time we played the Eagles - Powell, Kerley, Brick, Mangold, Wilk, Harris, Pace, Cro, Revis, Folk, Purdum. Their squad is basically entirely new. Yes, we're 0-9 against the Eagles but the only carry over is their name and their fanbase, same with us - these are two new squads against two new head coaches and we look like the better team right now.

Oh I agree it doesn't make any sense, but from a superstitious standpoint, really. But when I see teams like the Vikings, Bucs, Cardinals on the schedule you can't help but feel somewhat confident. Ravens, Eagles, Redskins, Steelers, 49ers... not so much.

I flew to Philadelphia with an Eagles fan friend. It was brutal. The only savior was being in his luxury box with some cheerleaders and all-you-can-drink Yuengling. I drank all I could drink that day, trust me. Ugly. I don't think the Jets will repeat that letdown on Sunday. Go Jets!

Tough game for sure. Glad we have'm in our joint. Crowd will be amazing! If we we're going to crumble as a team, we would never have scored after Indy did in the 4th Monday night. That drive right there made a statement. I'm sure most of us we're expecting the Jets to somehow lose that game for the very reason your talking about. (after the colts scored)

The 49ers are pretty crappy right now and the Cardinals are probably the 2nd best team in the NFC today. With Carson Palmer they are 14-2 in their last 16 games....Say that one outloud....Fourteen and Two! But I get your point.

I refuse to sleep on the Iggles....no matter how bad they looked.
This is a classic trap game for the Jets in their history...let's see if we truly turned a corner here...

I agree with you in this sense... I don't think the Jets would have a letdown and lose to a bad team that they should beat. However, I'm not convinced that the Eagles are a bad team yet. They're running a complex offense with a new QB, new RB, etc. that haven't worked with Chip Kelly for very long. There's a good chance that the Eagles snap out of their funk and right the ship. If/when Chip and the Eagles do get the kinks worked out they have the potential to be very dangerous and score in bunches.

Agreed, they have some talent at speed at certain positions that could kill us if we get sloppy. Problem is the Chipster may have overhauled his roster so much so that it might take awhile for them to get it together as a team.

Kelly's ego has caught up with the team. They're minus Kiko, their secondary is a botched unit of nobodies and Maxwell, and their offense can't get a yard on the ground to save a life. Murray was -15 yards at one point in the 3rd quarter. The ONLY thing they got going for them is a decent Run D, and a couple of playmakers at receiver.... this just in, our secondary is bangin'... Bowles will deal the deathblow to those chumps this weekend. Mark it down.
