If Rex was still here, I bet we could persuade him to pay one of his goon players to knock Geno out again so he doesn't see the field this year.

My take on Petty is this, clearly he isn't ready to handle the reigns yet, however the fact that the Jets didn't sign another qb tells me a few things. Either they felt comfortable enough to have him back up Fitz incase of injury and he looks better than we think, or.... They took a big gamble. I'm hoping the latter.

That's damn good beer! Would have sworn you were a Natural Light kind of guy. When I was young and broke, Nattie Light did save my budget! When I come to Houston, ya better have some money saved, I don't drink cheap! Natural light was the only drink we had in college. So cheap, scary that I actually liked it. If I tried it now I think I'd puke

Forgetting this year, God he looked like he new what he was doing.............sometimes......and other times it was like his first day! I'll admit, maybe I haven't given him a fair shake, since I was not in favor of drafting him, but after this spring I ALMOST miss Rick fuckin' Mirer. Part of it is that he had to play WAY before he was ready, part of it is that he's an immature brat, and the other part is that maybe he's just can't read a defense.... He also had absolutely no one to throw to. NO ONE.

Bowles was asked if Petty or Geno would be the active backup. He said, whoever is playing better. So Smith may be cleared, but he may not be on the active roster for Sunday. Not exactly a vote of confidence.
Also said that Petty and Geno split the scout team reps.

Interesting to reflect. Below are the receivers Smith worked with when he started his career until this year. That first year honestly makes me sick. Other fun facts to meditate on the topic of Geno's status as a backup: Fitzpatrick throws 1 INT per 29 throws. Smith throws 1 INT per 27 throws. TD per throw can be very influenced by the receivers while INT less so. In 11 years Fitz has been credited with 9 game winning/ending drives. Smith has 7 in 2 years. Fitz is running a 64.8 QBR (career AVG 79) vs Geno's 59 last year. Fitz v Colts was 1-7 on 20+ yard passes vs the 4th, 5th, and 6th string DBs. Geno last year was 6 for 37 on 20+ yard passes, only two of those 29 were drops, 7 of those remaining 22 were intereceptions. I don't recall ever seeing Geno read a defense and throw his WRs hand signs to change the play based on what he sees. I could have also ended that sentence after the word "defense".
2013-14 Season Wide Receivers: 15 Saalim Hakim 10 Santonio Holmes 11 Jeremy Kerley 86 David Nelson 17 Greg Salas
2014-15 Season Wide Receivers: 87 Eric Decker 82 Quincy Enunwa 10 T.J. Graham 15 Saalim Hakim CB 16 Percy Harvin KR 11 Jeremy Kerley PR 14 Chris Owusu 18 Walt Powell
2014-15 Season Wide receivers: 87 Eric Decker 81 Quincy Enunwa 11 Jeremy Kerley PR 15 Brandon Marshall 17 Chris Owusu KR 19 Devin Smith
