He's easily a top 5 favorite Jet of all-time for me, but something needs to be done. In no way am I saying he was the biggest problem today, but his play has dropped off precipitously the past 3 seasons. Coincidentally, i've felt he's needed to drop ~20 pounds over that span as he isn't getting any younger. Typically players lose weight to maintain a competitive edge as they age; this should be especially true for Mangold as he has always been a tactician when it comes to his blocking as opposed to a guy who would overpower his opponent. I also realize he dinged his shoulder with that stinger 2 weeks ago and that may play a role, but this is now a trending issue as far as I'm concerned.

He's looked fat as shit for a couple years now.
He's still a damn good player but in no way the undisputed best center in the league.
Hell, you could easily make the argument that he's no longer Top 5 at his position.

I will toss a diet book on his lawn tomorrow. Didn't he get plenty of exercise already running to his phone to report his car being stolen out of his garage?

Truth is all players have their prime and then get progressively worse....and that is what we see from Mangold and Brick and I'm the hugest Mangold fan, even wear his jersey every game day. He has a few more serviceable years but the position needs to be addressed and Brick is more of a priority to replace IMO. Our biggest problem is spending 9 of our last 11 first round picks on defense and then wondering WTF our offense sucks year after year. I just hope our FO starts addressing the offense next offseason, especially when it comes to the Oline. It's long overdue.

They wasted the prime years on Sanchez. Time to rebuild that Oline.

He and Brick are definitely on the back nine but I think our Guard play has made him look worse than he is. We have had great center play since 1998. Its gonna suck having to replace those guys but we need to start taking OL early in the draft.

Yet another reason to end this Fitzpatrick nonsense and find out what Geno Year 3 brings. If he sucks, then the Jets know QB is the top priority in the offseason (again). If Geno is good enough to get a 4th season or a new deal, then the focus CAN be on OL as it clearly needs to be. No one up front is blocking well in the run game.

It would suck going into next offseason and we still have questions about him, either he is the guy or he isn't and we can plan accordingly. OL has to be a top priority sometime in the next 2 drafts... I also agree with DD and others that its hard to develop mid round OL with the new CBA limits on practicing. Gonna have to start getting some blue chip prospects in here...
