43% are net takers or break even but that isn't good enough? I am all for a flat tax or the FAIR tax but no one is even talking about that anymore. The point is that people love to talk about the rich not "paying their fair share" but they are paying a TON more than the average person. A flat tax or FAIR tax would remove the loopholes and still set a lower income level that would protect the truly poor. What do you think is the right answer? I have given my ideas, provided facts, please share your ideas.
the richest 20 percent of Americans, by far, pay the most in income taxes, forking over nearly 87 percent of all the income tax collected by Uncle Sam.

To continue what I posted last night only 13% of that taxes collected are paid by 80% of the population. Does this seem "fair"? I will also add that the statement by FF2, "because they have no income or take advantage of tax breaks." is the same reason a lot of corporations don't pay taxes. So if not making a profit/income above the tax thresholds is a valid excuse for people it should be the same for corporations. Remove the loopholes for everyone, simplify the system and it will be a lot more fair. Of course that means that the mortgage deductions, child deduction and many others should be removed too.

National sales tax. Tax consumption, not productivity. Rich people who buy more would axiomatically pay more. Necessities like food should be exempt.
You'll never see this solution take place, because the virtual army of accountants and govt. emplyees who need the income tax code to continue to make their illicit living.

I am good with that too but I don't ever see it happening. Or if it ever did happen 10 years later they would institute an income tax on top of it. www.moneycrashers.com/fair-tax-act-explained-pros-cons/

Moreover, related legislation would repeal the Sixteenth Amendment, which means the federal government would no longer have the right to levy income taxes. States and local governments, however, would still be able to collect revenue via income and sales taxes at their discretion. The Constitution cannot be amended by mere legislation. I'm not in favor of a 23% tax in your synopsis. Nor am I in favor of rebates available etc. I am in favor of a 10% max national sales tax. Exemptoins only on particular products that are necessities. I don't care who has to bear more of the burden, let the populace share the consequences of their political decisions. So, no. I still support the "other" option.

Ok... so I see your programming may not be quite 100% complete yet. That's good. There may still be some time for a system reboot

dUde...because they make like 87% of the money...that's not a damning statistic. Dude! Not even close... 3/5 of the population hit the top 20% and 2/5 hit the top 10% for at least 2 consecutive years. This is not directed at anyone here but if you want to get out of the bottom 50% stop believing the people that want to redistribute. It is a crock of shit, THEY are the ones keeping you down. Believe in yourself, take a chance, Learn a skill (I'm not talking college necessarily as plumbers, electricians, welders make GREAT money), join the military, get a fucking job, show up on time, every day and do an honest days work, stop looking for the easy way out, follow the rules, etc. Stop thinking the world owes you something. You don't deserve to be in the top 50% if you never try to get out of McDonalds. I just dont wanna hear people whining about paying more taxes the more they make. Anyhoo...were talking percentages here. You do understand that half the people will always be in the lower 50% right? And they will always pay less taxes.

Al Capone didn't pay any taxes. Mitt Romney paid the same as me. He deserves it bro! He worked hard at being born into money! Shouldn't have to pay taxes! It's a blessing that he's an American.
