February 26, 2008To prepare for what would be a very busy free agency period, the Jets waived three players in order to free up cap space. On this day, 2/26/08, the Jets released WR Justin McCareins, CB Andre Dyson and OG Adrien Clarke. All 3 had been disappointing free agent signings for the Jets in previous seasons. McCareins became expendable after falling to 4th on the Jets depth chart behind Laveranues Coles, Jerricho Cotchery and Brad Smith. Dyson became expendable with the emergence of rookie Darrelle Revis. Clarke had been signed a year earlier to replace Pete Kendall, which did not exactly work out well for the Jets. Neither Dyson nor Clarke would get another opportunity to play in the NFL after their releases. McCareins played one last season in Tennessee before retiring at the end of the 2008 season.
