February 28, the day we moved on from one of the biggest draft busts in Jet history, but also the day we signed one of the biggest free agent busts in Jet history. February 28, 2011: The Jets waive LB Vernon Gholston. Gholston was the 6th overall pick in the 2008 NFL draft. In 3 seasons as a Jet, he started 5 games, made 16 tackles and had 0 sacks. After being released by the Jets, Gholston signed a contract with the Bears, but never got into a game in Chicago. Vernon Gholston -- a precautionary tale as we watch LBs workout in the combine today. February 28, 1996: The Jets signed free agent QB Neil O'Donnell to a 5-year contract. Neil would only play two of those 5 seasons with the Jets, starting 20 games with an 8-12 record over the course of the two seasons.

ouch. gholston was such a bad pick. i know they didn't have a chance to trade down but just about anybody but gholston would've been better. as for odonnell, you can't say they didn't try to get a qb. odonnell wasn't that bad at pittsburgh. the kotite years were just more than a little crazy. for some reason parcells and odonnell didn't see eye to eye.
